FIT-OOR: Hairy Tale!

FIT-OOR: Hairy Tale!

-

It could have been a fairy tale keeping up with the Valentine’s day. But hair take over and the viewer is left tearing his / her out. And then they throw a fit too keeping up with the title. If "insanity" has to be implied then the cast too is bodily "fit" except in casting.

-

FITOOR has nothing to do with toor or masoor ki daal. This is not about food or taste buds. This is about heart-strings that never stir. As there is no visible chemistry or physics or biology between the lead pair.

-

I admire Katrina Kaif’s guts. She has a good movie in her kitty. But that’s about it. She forgets to emote or express. But then, that is not expected at least of her. Her red riding hood hair take over.

-

Aditya Roy Kapoor(30) follows Kat in expression department. He too makes do with hairy tale. Aditya has miles to go before he can claim he can act or be considered a hero. He is the hero here because his elder brother Siddharth Roy Kapoor produced the movie and probably for Sid, the movie was made. And Adi gets to romance Kat!

-

Tabu carries forward the MAQBOOL(2003), and HAIDER(2014) act. She is the saving grace of this movie. Ajay Devgan(46, Abel Magwitch) gives able support in a cameo and mercifully he has nothing to do with hair. He is fairly good carrying forward OMKARA(2006) act. Lara Dutta too makes her presence felt as an art appraiser. Child actors too act well but the grown-ups cannot even emote.

-

Kashmir and Pakistan r incidental.

-

Why do v need Shakespeare or a Dickens when there’s rich Indian literature left to explore. Pity Premchand hasn’t come into picture yet. That could be merciful.

-

GREAT EXPECTATIONS(1861) is Charles Dickens’s 13th novel and his penultimate completed novel; a bildungsroman. Noor(Mohammed Abrar) is a 13-year-old poor Kashmiri boy infatuated with rich Firdaus(Tunisha Sharma) in Kashmir. Her foster mother Begum Hazrat(Tabu, 44, Miss Havisham) was left heart-broken in her younger age(Aditi Rao Hydari, 37) and is against the love because of rich-poor status. She splits the teenagers and insults Noor.

-

Later Noor(Aditya Roy Kapur, 30, Pip) moves to Delhi and becomes a renowned artist. He returns to Kashmir rich and famous. Firdaus(Katrina Kaif, 32, Estella) is engaged but still her heart belongs to Noor. Begum Hazrat too slowly comes around to the lovers, but is still determined to get Firdaus married to her fiance, Bilal(Rahul Bhat, 38, Bentley Drummle), a Pakistani politician. But all’s well that ends well and the lovers unite well in time to coincide with Valentine’s Day occasion. PHEW!

All six songs - Yeh Fitoor Mera, Hone Do Batiyan, Tere Liye, Ranga Re - are good especially "Pashmina" and "Haminastu".

-

The casting is inappropriate especially Tabu-Katrina as mother-daughter. Tabu looks more like Kat’s elder sister.

-

Cinematography is brilliant especially Kashmir in winter. It takes your breath away.

-

Finally you wonder, why was this movie made. Corporates have money and elder brothers(Sid) take care of younger brothers(Aditya). This one is a different dish. Enjoy the hair. Imagine. Sigh. Abhishek Kapoor has the fire to carry forward. Cheers.
