Romantic Delights

I first tried to come up with the’20 best songs.’. Too difficult to decide. So took the easier option and decided on this one. The list is based partly on the lyrics but to a great extent on the kind of mood the music creates and the emotions they evoke in the person listening. Which would be me in this case- and so I guess you could call it my personal favourites.

  1. Love in store - Fleetwood Mac

Simple - is just about the right word for this number. Simple https://lyrics. Simple tune. Simple music. A lively beat. A simple guitar-keyboard melody that runs through the entire song. Christine Mcvie and Stevie Nicks perfectly coordinate their vocals.

But all put together a song that can really lift you when you feel depressed or down.

-

  1. Annies Song - John Denver

There isnt much for me to say about this one, is there? A true masterpiece. A haunting tune, beautiful clear vocals, truly poetic https://lyrics.what more. Only complaint - song is simply too short!

-

  1. Living for you - Boston

There are actually two songs by Boston that stand out - the other being’A Man I’ll never be’. The latter got edged out, being the gloomier of the two.

The magic of the whole song is probably the vocals of Brad Delp. The song starts of with a routine low pitch stanza. And when you thinks its just a routine melody, the song explodes into a VERY high crescendo that just gets higher and higher.

Bringing forth all the emotions you could associate with the https://lyrics. A sneak preview:

.

Maybe I’m dreaming, don’t want to wake up now

Baby, I love you, I always knew it somehow

Happened so easy, don’t need to think it through

It’s not so amazing Been going so crazy for you

Dreaming and hoping, hoping that dreams come true

You’re my religion, girl, I’ve been living for you

Don’t want to fight it, tried everything I know

I won’t deny it You’re everywhere I try to go

(and here’s where the crescendo starts)

And I, I never needed to lie

Can’t you see I believe in my heart when I’m saying

It’s love that you see

You mean the world to me I’m praying for you

Tom Scholz(the composer for the band) is criticized for taking as long as 3-4 years to create a new album. Listening to songs such as these - worth it!

-

  1. The eye in the sky - Alan Parsons Project Magic.

A song that stands out for the sheer brilliance of Alan Parsons - at his very best at composing & tweaking the music. Not to mention the vocals of Eric Wolffsen.

Special attention to this passage: .

You’ve taken lots of chances before

But i’m not gonna give anymore Don’t ask me

That’s how it goes

Cause part of me knows what you’re thinkin’

Don’t say words you’re gonna regret

Don’t let the fire rush to your head

I’ve heard the accusation before

And I ain’t gonna take any more Believe me

The sun in your eyes Made some of the lies worth believing

.

I’ve not heard anyone else sing this right. If you are able to - then hats off to you!

  1. Keep on Loving you - Reo Speedwagon

A song that is sure to overpower anyone for its sheer melody.

A limited band at best, Reo seem to get their act together in producing ballads such as this one and many more.

As the story goes, they started off as a hard rock band with little success for over 10 years. And one fine day, the vocalist woke up all depressed after their latest flop and composed a song for his sweetheart. And the rest is history!

Quite a bit of the lyrics sound rather silly. But if you do listen to the song, check out this passage and the effect:

’And I meant, Every word I said,

When I said that I loved you I meant that I loved you forever,

And I’m gonna keep on loving you,

Cos its the only thing I wanna do, I dont wanna sleep,

I just wanna keep on loving you’

Sheer magic!

  1. At Last, Forever - Jethro Tull

Probably the least well known of the songs I’ve listed. This one is from a little known album called’Roots to Branches’ where Ian Anderson describes his views on India. Genius is a word I can readily associate with him. You could see why if you do get to listen to this song.

Starts off slowly and quietly with an almost inaudible guitar strumming in the background. And then the song suddenly explodes into a full fledged crescendo based on the same’almost inaudible’ strumming.

A beauty and a masterpiece. Makes me wonder why is so unheard of!

Being the topper, let me leave you with the complete lyrics for this one:

So why are you holding my hand tonight?

I’m not intending to go far away.

I’m just slipping through to the back room

I’ll leave you messages almost every day.

And who was I to last forever?

I didn’t promise to stay the pace.

Not in this lifetime, babe

but we’ll cling together:

some kind of heaven written in your face.

So why are you holding my hand tonight?

Well, am I feeling so cold to the touch?

Do my eyes seem to focus

on some distant point?

Why do I find it hard to talk too much?

And who was I to last forever?

I didn’t promise to stay the pace.

Not in this lifetime, babe

but we’ll cling together:

some kind of heaven written in your face.

So why are you holding my hand tonight?

I’m not intending to go far away.

I’m just slipping through to the back room

I’ll leave you messages almost every day.

And who was I to last forever?

I didn’t promise to stay the pace.

Not in this lifetime, babe

but we’ll cling together:

some kind of heaven written in your face.
