Both the reviews on the endeavor on ms have given the suv a 5 star rating.i don’t find any reason for this.it is not like a ford suv at all.ford’s suvs are powerful and rugged.
first the looks.the endeavor’s looks are no doubt amazing.the back looks good even if the tail lamps are charecterless.the stephney is covered by the cap.it has mountain peaks embossed in it(as the endeavor is actually named the everest around the world)when viewed from the side you can see how big it is.the alloy wheel caps leave a good impression(15’’ wheels).fit and finish standards are very good, so is build quality.overall the endeavor looks very rugged and is very large.-9/10
the engine is an isuzu turbo-charged diesel(2500 cc)which belts out 110 bhp.power is very inadequate as this suv is very heavy and large.thus performance is similiar to the safari.(explained later).it is not at all in the league with the explorer, etc.this is one major con of the endeavor, especially as it is priced at around 15 lakhs in india.-7/10
the sheer size of the endeavor translates into a lot of space inside.the are 3 rows of forward facing seats.ergonomics are good.the quality of the seat fabrics, plastics, etc. are also up to the mark.the centre console is uncluttered and neat.the speedo is white numbers on black.it does look a bit outdated.the stereo may not suit all tastes.the steering is chunky and is wrapped in leather.seating is not so bad.moving on to the rear, there is quite a lot of legroom for the second row of seats.but this is not to be in the third row.the floor rises to meet the seat.the legroom is also not adequate.so the third row is strictly for kids.air con is also effective.-8/10
now performance, both on road and off road.on road it feels very difficult to haul around the heavy vehicle.handling is not exactly good(it is an suv after all).the performance figures are bad.even the scorpio beats the endeavor in the race from 0-60 and to 100.all the other suvs(above 10 lakhs) easily beat the endeavor except for the safari which is also underpowered.the endeavor takes more than 20 seconds to reach 100 kmph.top speed is okay, around 150 kmph.off road the performance is as bad.if you think it is a rugged suv and performs only off road you are absolutely wrong.the 4x2 fails to impress.it cannot even get out of muddy pits easily.the 4x4 is a bit better.but again the suv is underpowered and thus it goes against it.-6.5/10
fuel efficiency is not very bad considering it is an suv.it surprised me mainly because most ford suvs drink a lot of fuel.the endeavor managed to give around 11 kmpl in conditions that stimulates both highway and city driving conditions.anyway if you are ready to buy an suv then you must be ready to spend a lot of money on fuel.-8/10
overall for a price of 15 lakhs you must be expecting a powerful, rugged suv that can drive easily off road.sadly the endeavor does not manage to do this.the main reason is that it is underpowered.but there are some positive features too, like the space, the looks and most importantly the size.so if you want to have some fun and go off roading then you had better look elsewhere.but if you want just the sheer size and looks backed up by the comforts of a car then maybe the endeavor will suit you.
