Advice on visiting a shopping mall . you must be desperate if youre reading a total strangers view of shopping. but wait. I am enlightened after many years of accompanying my mother, my friends, and other people I tolerate. Cue the swishing camera effect. youre ready.
My Rules for picking clothes, shoes, stores, embarking on shopping at a mall or just one store, etc: followem or laugh atem the choice is yours to make
Money tends to burn a hole in my pocket. I like to have a set amount of CASH so I dont buy stuff on impulse that Ill hate later. Go the Mall of America in your backyard? Skip it(or postpone the trip) and look online for what you want to gauge a price. There are plenty of deals online, especially on shipping. Good place to start is https://froogle.com(alas still in beta version) brought to you by the geniuses that brought us https://google.com. Also looking for people that love looking for bargains, free stuff, online coupons. hit up https://dealofday.com, featured by TIMEs sister publication On Magazine as the place for .you guesses it deals.
Decide what youre looking for. Never works, but at least you can laugh remembering you originally were headed into the mall for pants and ended buying everything but pants.
Maybe cause Im not that social, but I hate going shopping with certain people when I know exactly what I want. However if the way to the mall is going to be adventure invite the amigos over and kiss that L on your forehead goodbye.(Come on everyone looks sad when theyre alone in the mall)
Whether its the Gap or AE, head straight to what I like to callthe rack. Stuff thats color is out of season, style has been discontinued, whatever the clearance racks is chock full of good finds, horrifying shirts that nobody should buy and real good buys- sometimes. Old Navy is notorious for$2.99 tee shirts and$.97 flips flops during winter and even the Gap sells great sweaters and khakis for ten bucks.
Got a teenage daughter that wants to rip of Avril who ripped of Gwen Stefani? End the cycle of buying pre ripped and pre dirt coated jeans. You want jeans that look like someone pissed on the pant legs. go in your attic, to a local garage sale or ebay.com buy the jeans, buy the clothing dye at your grocers and get started on the wonderful world of creating your own clothes.Beware, once you cut something up, its going to be real hard to repair the damage done.
Actually, now that I think about Malls come up short when it comes to originality and individuality. Everyones buying a rugby shirt. resist the urge to put on a media created uniform. then again, Im a repressed punk emo lover, so decide for yourself, do you want the blue pill or the red one?
