I bought 6 montsh Back Hathway Digital Cable Set Top Box (from now on CSTB ). I got the model Humax ND-1200C.
6 months back , It was costing Rs. 1500 in bangalore. Can be bargained if bought from local CATV operator say for about Rs 100 or two less. And no changes to the monthly rentals. It depends on your Cable Operator and the bangalore area in which you leave. I am getting 150+ channels. (Includes almost all Pay Channels)

About the Product: Connections are very simple. Just connect your city cable to your Set top Box. then connect your RCA cables Video, Audio Left and Right to your TV. Thats All. It doesn’t require any external dish antena like other Digital TV service providers like Tata Sky , Dish TV. It gives DVD quality picture and true stereo sound. But there is one Problem with this CSTB. If the high voltage comes through your cable. For eg: due to lightning or due bad cable insulation.
[ Since these cables are some times carried very near to electric poles. ]
Your TV or Audio amplifier will go for a toss. This is my personal experience.
As this CSTB doesn’t have any fuse inside to protect from voltage surges through Cable [ CATV ]. This is personnel experience. It burnt my TV , audio Amplifier and also CSTB. My CSTB was under 1 year warranty. So I got replaced with new CSTB.
Now I use a external Cable surge protector at input to CSTB. Should cost you less than 100 Rs.
I hope it is working ! .
And also I connect the CATV cable only when I am watching TV. Otherwise I disconnect it from Socket Why take chances ?
