Do I matter?

. is what I asked myself. Prince Sidharth also asked himself the same question, and emerged Gautama Buddha when he got the answer. Only, I ain’t a saint. so, I’m still stuck on the same question.

I wanted a connection quickly and thought a private player would jump at my call. But when I tried to contact Hathaway, I was shocked to see that I had to continuously dial their number for 3 days before it went beyond the engage tone!

If that was not all, the person who answered the call seemed totally at sea when I told him I needed a new connection. Looks like Hathaway has enough customer complaints to make them forget new connections.

"New Connection?(surprise, surprise!) Please stay on the line Sir!"

He must have cupped the receiver and laughed his guts out, until tears came out from his eyes. Or sent an email to all his colleagues to join in the con call to listen to this new joke!

He comes back finally and says, ’I will pass on the info to the concerned department. Please give me your phone number’. And he took it down.

I waited and waited and waited. And finally dialled their number for 3 more days to report in a’lead not serviced’ complaint. I finally succeeded in connecting and poured out my anguish into the deaf ears of a chap, only to be told, "please give your phone number, I’ll get the dept concerned to call you".

And BSNL installed its connection within 5 days of calling and they promised 15 days TAT leaving me wondering if I am to feel bad that it took 5 days in this enlightened era. or feel good that there exist some sympathetic ears even if they are cob-webbed ears of a govt organisation!
