Let me share my experience of HCL ME U1 tablet PC. I ordered a ME U1 tablet from HCL online store and received the same on 12-May-2012.
The looks, user interface and the touch screen response are good . So I believed that I did a great thing untill the tablet failed the very next day from purchase - It wouldn’t boot up at all..!! So I had to take the same for servicing on 14-May. The service engineer said that this is a known issue with the default firmware and flashed it with the newer version to rectify the issue.
The new firmware itself consumes 2GB of the available 4GB internal storage capacity (The older one was consuming 1.4GB). So only 2GB is usable for us.
Even though the tablet supports up to 32GB external card, it takes ages to read even from a 2GB external micro SD card. Also it hanged several times when I was accessing the gallery. I had to reset the tablet with help of a paperclip ( this is mentioned in the user manual). I strongly suggest HCL that it will be good if you provide a pack of paperclips with this tablet so that the user can reset the tablet whenever it hangs.
Many pre installed applications such as "Think free office" and "Ninja rush" suddenly closed in between with an apology message.
The cell radio is always on and it consumes more than 70% of the battery power.The worst thing is that the tablet does not support flight mode/ Airplane mode. So the cell radio will keep on draining out the battery even when the tablet is in sleep mode.
I believe that HCL hasn’t bothered to do any product testing before the launch of this tablet. It is the poor customers who are playing the role of product testers.
This is a Chinese quality product with an Indian brand name. So think twice before you leap!
