I ordered a bunch of books attracted primarily by a 10% off coupon from my bank and one book, an omnibus which was around Rs. 750. I then piled on others into my cart. At the checkout on a full payment of Rs. 1706, I got a discount of Rs. 126 which is not 10%. I assumed that there must be some calculation to do with the pre existing discounts on some books and went ahead (Now I’m not so sure seeing that they’re not really discounts but "Our Price"s).
I got most of my order promptly but I’m still waiting for the book I was excited about in the first place. I mailed them to absolutely no response. Now its been almost two months (TWO MONTHS!!) and I called them up and a very busy guy answered the phone. He looked up the order and told me that book was in Pre-Order. Which I certainly don’t remember seeing. And even if I missed the tiny sub-script in the page, nowhere in the check-out cart or in the mail or in "my account" or in my confirmation page does it show that its a pre-order book. All websites warn you explicitly if its a pre-order. The best one doesn’t even let you buy the book, preferring to inform you once its available.
Anyways now that I’d called them up, suddenly it was available in a week. And I took a look at the book on the site and its now a good 60 bucks cheaper and to top it off a paperback version is available at less than half the price at Rs. 293. You get a lot of stuff here but I’m definitely not going to buy anything here unless its absolutely not available anywhere else or its got a humongous discount over other sites.
22nd Feb’12: An Update that not an update - It’s been about two weeks and the book’s sudden availability seems to have been a mirage.
