A day in Asia's largest museum!

Recently we happen to make a visit to the largest museum of Asia. Thats the Indian Museum in Kolkata-India. I was excited since morning to see it. I had been there when I was in school. So we started...

On reaching the place I was filled with pride and was all praises about it. It’s exterior looked magnificent for it had been painted and renovated recently, as we had heard. We bought few sumptuous guavas from a vendor outside it and headed for the ticket gallery. The entry fees was very low, we were surprised. Then...to my astoundment it was a "museum", I suddenly realised with a few steps inside it! It had the same structure built by the British Government more than 100years ago.

I apprehend, since then the sustenance has been such that every peck of dust, dirt, cobwebs has been preserved so very well! bravo!

All of my hullabaloo went into drains. There we stepped into the first room having dinosaur and other species of the same era’s bones n skeletons. I guess if they ever come back to life they will die because of the load of dust on them. I feel sorry for them. Sorry guys! No jurassic park for you all. Our government doesn’t allow. Similarly there were many rooms with rarest articles exhibited without care. They are simply lying there because they cannot move.

If ever they come to life they will run off from there we were sure. Walking into a room and browsing, trying to recognise the animal...one of us shouted aaggghhhh! There was a spider trying to escape the museum with my shoulder’s help! "Sorry my friend" I said I cannot help you because I am afraid of you.So you will have to die here. There were rooms for mammals like blue whale’s teeth, human babies, giant elephant’s skeleton, lions, tigers etc exhibited quite shabbily, insects, rare birds, amphibians, an egyptian mummy room. The museum in itself is huge and is very interesting but very poorly kept. It was evening by now and we had heard that the management of the museum had replaced old lights and had laid emphasis on lighting system. Before that I must tell you about the cranky fans, or to be precise the so-called ’fans".

They were moving! We still wonder how....may be a man was employed to move it manually! Because they weren’t producing any air but noise!Anyways, back to our lights...I think these people are smart! They replaced the old British time lights with the used lights of their homes. As because the new ones looked as old as the museum itself!

I am disconsolated to say that the heritage which belongs to us is in such a substandard state! Its the largest museum of Asia so in my opinion it belongs to all of the Asians! If India is unable to take care of its heritage property it is the responsibility of the other Asian contries to take over it!We were discussing amongst us that had it been in any other Asian country it would have been in a much better condition! So guys if you ever happen to visit that museum do something about it. I have tried to do...by making you aware of the dying treasure!
