Jerry: ‘… But on what was supposed to be the happiest night of my business life, it wasnt complete, wasnt nearly close to being in the same vicinity as complete, because I couldnt share it with you. I couldnt hear your voice, or laugh about it with you. I missed my wife...You complete me’
There are a very few movies which make a real impact.
Dicky Fox (Jerry’s mentor): ‘Tomorrow is another day’
Fewer movies have dialogue the keep ringing in your mind.
One of such movies is Jerry Maguire.
Jerry: ‘Hey! I am back’.
I had been lucky to watch it enough number of times to get the dialogues by hearted.
The story revolves around Jerry Maguire, a successful sports agent who on one fine day decides to write a memo titled ‘Mission Statement -- a suggestion for the future’.
Dicky Fox: ‘The key to this job is personal relationships’.
The problem begins as his mission statement totally contradicts the business strategy of his sports agency.
Sugar (Jerry’s Junior and back stabber): ‘Came here to fire you, Jerry’.
He is fired. His girl friend calls him a ‘loser’ before breaking off.
Slightly unhinged Jerry starts his very own sports agency with his loyal clerk Dorothy.
Avery (Jerry’s ex-girl friend): ‘Function! Function! Function. Forward motion is everything’.
A company that survives with only one client. Rod Tidwell. But Rod has been a ‘superstar in the making’ for too long, and is desperate to make money.
Tidwell (Jerry’s only client): ‘Show me the money!’
Jerry finds himself in a stew. He marries Dorothy for the wrong reason. ‘Loyalty’
Tidwell: ‘for loyalty, you buy a dog. For love, you get married’
But Dorothy who loves him truly wants the same from him and she will not settle for anything less. She decides to break the marriage.
Dorothy: ‘I mean, on the surface, youd almost think everything was fine. See, Ive got this great guy who
loves my kid and he sure does like me a lot. I cant live that way. Its not the way Im built.’
How Jerry succeeds in his career and realizes that love and family are equally important forms the rest of the story.
The movie has a handful of wonderful quotes.
Dorothy: ‘Women need to stick together, and not depend on the affections of a man to fix their lives. Maybe youre all correct. Men are the enemy. But I still love the enemy’.
Sentimental, Philosophical and even funny
Ray (Dorothy’s son):‘You talk too much!’
Not a movie to be missed.
