Hi All! The reason I chose the starting verse of the song as my title, is because I liked it. It was partly the reason why I went to see the movie in the first place. And the rest of the movie did not let me down either.
The 2nd film by Farhan Akhtar after DCH, was also a good one, if not better than DCH. For one thing the theme was different.
More often than nought our film makers get carried away by the theme of war, and end up making films or rather a hash of it. This film was just about right.
This here is also a story about an upper class youth who is direction less. The subtlelty of the situation is brought out in the scene where Preitys father asks him his plans for the future and Hrithik doles out his plans for the day.
Unsure about his plans for the future, he picks up his threads from a friend and applies for the army. He is brought down to earth when he keeps erring at the training.
And when he runs away from it, he is ridiculed not just by his father, but his girl drops him too. That eventually toughens his resolve to succeed, and well he becomes an officer in the army.
The story till the war, is narrated in part flashbacks, which is now apparent as Farhans signature.
The film opens to fabulous locales, captured adeptly by Mr. Popps Cinematography. Absolutely stunning that. Over the entire feature, the war scenes were a bit stretched, but never become too grating.
The songs were good too. The Mai Aisa kyo hu, is quite catchy, and the choreography by Prabhudeva, execution by Hrithik was excellent. Agar main kahu was a peppy tune, and had great music - sort of a country music tune.
The title song is powerfully rendered by Shankar Mahadevan. But the song by Sadhana & Hariharan has been rendered quite well too. The camaraderie song, sounded too much like the Baar Baar Haan, but did not have the impact. Overall the songs n music were excellent.
Performances were good, but Hrithik has really put in an amazing performance. As the lost young man to the person with a strong sense of direction, he has performed marvelously. Here is another actor, who uses his expressions to convey the maximum. Preity was just there to support, but her hairdos were weird earlier on.The rest of the cast is quite supportive. Amitabh has done his bit quite well. Not much for him to do though. A lot of folks were wondering out aloud, what was he doing there in the first place. Well, I feel he wanted to be part of a good film, and so he was.
Overall, I felt that it was a good film. A film I quite enjoyed in some time now. The last one I saw was Harry Potters latest, which kind of let me down - Gary oldman as Sirius Black was a no no - But that is another story...
Back to this one..Lakshya is a good movie. Do not expect too much, and you will be a happy viewer.
Adios!
