Suddha - is the first digital movie to be made in Tulu language( a language spoken by a couple of million people in the two districts of Mangalore and( partly in Udupi), in the state of Karnataka, southern India.
The movie is adaptation of an award winning Tulu play by Nandavar. Till the movie was made by P N Ramachandra, the play was not heard of much, specially by non-Tuluvas. Now that P N has gone great lengths recreatesuddha, the play comes back to life again.
Suddha narrates how feudal system in orthodox families is on the wane. It is done using a simple professional 3-CCD camera, shot entirely in the southern parts of Mangalore. Actors, amateurs though, have given a creditable performance.
The movie has a strong visual appeal. Some of the visuals stay long in the mind to remind of its power. One cannot miss the lush green scenery of the southern part of Karnataka - its agricultural roots and environment.
What probably could have been corrected is that of theplay appeal of the movie. P N has not fully succeeded in transcending from thedramatic verbosity of the play to portray a predominantly cinematic video element, except in some phases, which of course, are worth the effo
