An Old, Friendly, Familiar Taste

Any woman who has eternally hungry kids(and a foodie for a husband) will know the sheer convenience of Maggi Noodles! It is a delicious quick-fix that gets gobbled up in no time. No complaints – only demands for second helpings!

My health-conscious friends would frown disdainfully upon me – but believe me, it’s so much easier having a happy, satisfied family than to expend all one’s energy on getting said family to have oats, lentils and other “healthy” stuff with equal enthusiasm.

The undying fondness for Maggi Noodles undoubtedly stems from the fact that so many of us have grown up with this familiar taste. It is the taste of our summer holidays, our in-between-meals snack, our college canteen staple diet, our roadside late night dinner when nothing else is available – not to forget, the hungry single woman’s and starving bachelor’s midnight snack that comes handy when cooking up anything else is a whole lot of troublesome hard work.

The ad may say “Two minutes” but all of us have our own pet ways of making what we believe is definitely the best Maggi. And sometimes that takes more than two minutes. Here’s how I do it. I pour a cup of water into a microwaveable bowl. I then add the Tastemaker and stir well till the powder and the water forms a dark brown liquid that looks like soup. I then add the noodles to this mixture and add just enough water to cover the noodles; the water should ideally be a centimetre or so above the noodles.

I then put the bowl in the microwave and give it a buzz for just a minute, a minute and a half at the most. Then I take the bowl out and stir the contents, mixing the noodles and the liquid more thoroughly. Now the bowl goes back into the microwave for another minute. After this, I take the bowl out of the oven and let it stand for a while. In around three minutes, the extra liquid gets absorbed by the noodles – and you have a bowl of slightly moist, tantalizingly glistening Maggi Noodles: hot, delicious and ready to be devoured by the family, patiently waiting with their plates and forks.
