Having used this product for a couple of years, I can truly say this amplifier is a BEAUTY.....in every way. Starting with its looks --- a chunky box in a jet black satin finish with gold lettering.......very classy! And so is the sound --- utterly smooth, non-fatiguing, MUSICAL, uncoloured, seductive and relaxing.....I could go on and on! The approach is minimalistic --- there are NO bass/treble controls or ’’EQ’’ of any kind, because Marantz feels this muddies the sound. In fact, they even provide a ’’Source Direct’’ switch, which allows you to bypass EVERYTHING, virtually connecting your source directly to the volume control! And this DOES make an audible difference.... And guess what --- there is a PHONO input! A rare thing these days; and a major plus for me because I still own a large record collection and a turntable, in addition to CD’s. And there is (thank God!) a remote control. Some may say that 50 watts RMS per channel (going up to 80 on peaks) is a little too little --- but this machine plays movie blockbusters like ’’Gladiator’’ (only in 2-channel stereo of course) with enough punch and realism for me. And the power is ALWAYS clean --- grace under pressure. And all this at a very reasonable price. Where can you buy it? Sadly, they dont make it any more! But I do recall seeing a listing on Baazee (now called ebay.in) recently so check it out.... you might get lucky!
