I, like any other person who was completely in love with the story and special effect of the Matrix, eagerly awaited the first sequel for 4 long years. My husband and I wanted to see the film on May 15 when it appeared at our local theater. We came too late, and it was sold out. May 17, we reserved tickets and got there early for good seats. I do not think it mattered where we sat, because I did not like this film from any angle.
The main cast was pretty much the same as the original. Morpheus, Trinity, and Neo are back, and Jada Pinkett is cast as Morpheuss former lover and captain of another ship. I am not sure how I should comment. Neo, is still not secure with his powers since he is still discovering what he can do. Morpheus is convinced he is the one and that his faith will be correct despite the fact that almost everyone else doubt Neo is The One who will liberate the humans from the Matrix and save the human race. Naiobi, Jada, also has doubts about Neo, but you can see she believes in Morpheus as a man. I am sure there will be something going on between them in the next film. Trinity did not have a very outstanding role, in my opinion. The whole film seemed to center around the love story between her and Neo. She is always hanging all over him, and they are talking all disgustingly romantic. I think that clouded the plot to me. I wanted to see more action and a stronger story line about their quest to find the source of the Matrix and liberation of the humans like there was in the original.
This movie was not able to keep me glued to the screen. There were some amazing action sequences such as Neo fighting multiple Mr. Smiths. I also enjoyed the fight sequence between Neo and the Oracles gatekeeper. In between some amazing special effects and fight sequences was a weak plot centered around Neo and Trinitys love. The low-point of the film was the tribal dance in Zion. Between that erotic dance with techno music in the background and Neo and Trinity going at it simultaneously in another room I was wondering if I was watching the same film. Was this the Matrix Reloaded or some soft-core adult film made for cable TV? Finally, I disliked the abrupt ending. It felt like the writers knew this sequel was mediocre, so they made the ending so confusing and abrupt that viewers would have to see the final Matrix installment set for November just to gain some closure. Sorry to the people who loved this film, but I feel that the original contained a concept so unique. The world as we know it does not exist, and those who resist will be eliminated. This Matrix Reloaded did not live up to my expectations. It is worth seeing once, but I really do not wish to see it again.
