By using this system children learn that you have to work (in this case play games) in order to be able to buy stuff. There are many games, the most rewarding generally being the Puzzles section. A game in the Puzzles section is almost guaranteed to be edutainment.
If you let your child sign up to Neopets.com make sure that they select the appropriate age when signing up. This is because of the Dark Side the title of this review suggested. The so-called ’’Chat Boards’’ are full of posts like ’’Any 14+ girls with pics?? Neomail me!!!’’ which are in my opinion not a good thing. Neopets is making an effort in putting a stop to people like this, but it’s not enough yet. They allow unlimited accounts to be created from one computer, and when they stop an abuser they don’t disable all his accounts, so they generally continue.
If yo can keep your child from the Chat Boards this site is one of those few sites where you can let your child go unsupervised, in my experience.
