A Good Mobile overall for the price

I have been using this mobile since Nov 2009. I did a fair amount of research on the price vs. features of phone available in the market. I had to get a phone in the 15k range. After all the research, I went for 5800 xpressmusic, which had a very competitive pricing.

The OS being Symbian is a bit sluggish and that would be even more so since I load my phone with tons of third party software. I have an Airtel connection and I download songs into the memory card but I keep only those that I listen for a while and transfer rest on my laptops. Resource management!! The picture gallery is absolutely fine with no problems of hanging or crashing even on using accelerometer. The pictures tend to flow next or prev on finger drags pretty quick. The touch sensitivity is a bit sluggish.

Speaking of the camera, a mobile is not here to match a full feldged camera. If someone thinks to replace a camera with a mobile camera, sorry. It’s never like that. What ever you do, you cannot match the bit depth of full fledged cameras. Thats what makes the difference, not the megapixels.(This place is not adequate to discuss the intricacies). But, for emergency and quick shots, its fine to snap with this cam.

I have Opera Mobile 10 installed and that makes my internet experience even better.

One can install Palringo for YM, Google Chats. I have tested Palringo, its just fine on this mobile.

Music is infact very good, you cant match BOSE system with a mobile. I tested the stereo efects and surround on the regular ear plugs that came in the box with special audio tracks. The results were quite good. I have not tested the Seinheisser headphones though.

And, the mobile is very easy to use, even my nephew of 11 years and my niece of 6 years can handle it with ease.

Special Incidents:

  1. The plastic stylus becomes loose in the slot after lot of use. The built quality os the stylus is not too good. I restrict using it now.

  2. I had a problem of completely wiped off call history and I could see the missed calls even.Googled, found a solution. Actually, I had to hard reset the phone. Bingo!! It was done.

  3. I was sad since I did not have a Navigation system on my phone. I received an SMS from Nokia to get driving and walking navigation support and license free for life. I quickly installed it. And behold!! Now I have GPS enabled Navigation on my phone with voice assistance in HINDI !!! That too, free for life. I use the phone to navigate my way through Mumbai. Its very accurate with almost all details. There are maps of 75 countries with language support in many languages. I just got a car charger, which came for ~300 bucks and I am in search for a Nokia car windscreen holder for this, which will complete the set.

  4. I updated the OS to 40.0.005 custom version 40.005.c03.01 and the phone is a bit faster now and there is dynamic scrolling, something that I longed for.

  5. And, yes, I have dropped it many times, even on concrete!! But nothing went wrong.

In short, at this price range, its a very good choice.

That’s all from me.
