This was a review long in writing. Thing was, I was not sure how to go about such a hackneyed movie like this! I mean, I’ve never seen such metamorphosis which the lead characters go through in this movie with such glee abandon. A girl-friend who is not quite sure whether she wants her boyfriend to strip, whether she loves the friend of the boyfriend, is equally as confused as the other friend who is never sure what he wants. To an extent that he compares his mom and the girlfriend later in the movie!!
So whatever we talking about here? I will assure you first hand, this will be one short review – I mean there is nothing much to talk about in the first place. Oh well, here it is, as it was in the movie – A disgruntled college kid wants to earn the fast way, and when the ‘fast’ opportunity springs up as a form of stripping, he accepts it not only for himself, but for his friend as well! Now this friend who is neither sure he wants to or not, decides to do it for ‘dosti ke khatir’. A song later both of them are learning stripping – amusingly the friend almost chokes in one part of the song when the hero remove his hot pants…err…you know what is being referenced here. I wonder what he choked at – that he didn’t have any like him, or that he didn’t have it, or to his shock his friend didn’t have it or may be well, he had serious misconceptions about his sexuality. Anyways, oops leaves this mystery to be unwound by the viewer.
Another song later, both present themselves as strippers to a band of girls who look as if they were there to discuss lipsticks rather than stick lips with strippers. At one point, the song stops, the female who asked him to strip does a hopeless JLO style a*ss shake all over the place – literally – I bet during the shooting, she must have bumped her sorry behind with the hero a couple of times, causing immense trouble to parts that needed to be alive and kicking during such a show. Anyways so much for stripping, the hero meets a lady at the next strip show who apparently is interested in ‘the real thing’ (what was she doing there then in the first place is another mystery for the viewer), and offers him services. He aptly takes it, beds her, gets laid (yeah, not her, but him), and almost falls in love with her, before he shockingly discovers it is friends (fellow stripper’s mom). That he has never met his best friend’s family even once is another mystery. Maybe I had impressions of the movie wrong.
Then couple of scenes later, everyone comes to know of everything and this is where things get comically hot. The hero justifies his position that since his girlfriend was now on his side, it is only right he beds his mom. The friend flames up and says – ‘Are you comparing Ricki (the name of the girl) with my mom?’ – Hello – what was the comparison about? That his girl friend is better than his mom? Or that his mom is better in bed than Ricki might have been? I couldn’t just control this bizarre question and the hysterical fight they have. Right after the friend’s mom justifies her bedding with young boys, coz, everyone neglected her, and most importantly she was waiting for years for either her to son or husband to come. Where? Hopefully in the other places I hope. Anyways, she suffers a cliché heartache again, and now the friend fires his dad for not sexually satisfying her mom – err, wasn’t he a proof enough? Maybe a cricket team would have sufficed his fury.
Scripting goes from being hackneyed, to well, being hackneyed! There is absolutely no consistency in characters in the way they behave – the hero’s father towards the end advises him that while he has the liberty to be a drunkard, his son shouldn’t! More so, the best friends patch up (hello?), and the girlfriend is still in confusion as to what to do. The hero by the way, stops stripping!
To say that the movie was hopelessly directed is a joke – what could have been an interesting premise becomes a melodrynamic display of all characters. The movie doesn’t’ have a social message too – what did the director prove – that stripping is bad? That don’t get into bed with a older women? That an older woman’s quest for sex is justifiable by appropriate boyhood voyeurs? Or may be that best friends learn to forgive each other in spite of obvious muck that goes between them? This is one of those cinemas, which began on a wafer thin story line, and sadly, remains there after 2 hours!
Moral of the story –
Object Oriented Programming Systems are better. Err?
