Thanda ka funda

Ah well, When I planned this trip to Mangalore (lots of weddings to attend), I was warned by folks continuously, of the sweltering heat, that I’d hav to bear. But then, Mumbai weather was nothing great either, so there was nothing to lose. And so it was that I landed here this 19th of May. The weather here was a stark contrast to what was expected. Thanx to some low pressure in the region, we were greeted with rain. Yeah! And so it is that the weather is quite pleasant. well we r definitely not here to talk about Mangalore or its weather. We are here to know about this awesome place, called Pabba’s.

This is an ice-cream joint. And what a joint this is is. This is an up-market version of the local favorite Ideal’s ice-creams. This also belongs to Ideals. And is a favorite haunt of all kinds of people. The restaurant, which features only ice-creams, juices and thick shakes is a unique concept. Here you have genuine ice-cream hoggers ( me for instance). I know for certain that while I am here in Mangalore, I am gonna b trying out all their combo’s, and on every day and iff possible, every 4 hours. Now I lov my ice-creams. And I can tell you this folks. Ideals ice creams are the best amongst all that I have eaten so far. If u were to compare Ideals with the rest (walls, vadilal, amul), I wont even start a comparison. Caus they are not worth starting a conversation. Now let me tell you about whats available. First and foremost, there is the famous Gadbad (costs Rs 28/-) and is the pick of most folks who come here. This is a combo of a couple of ice-cream scoops, with Jelly, fruits thrown in.

Then for the more adventurous types, we have these flavours 1) Dilkhush ( peanut vanilla, vanilla, strawberry) plus vermicelli & fruits. This is yum, but when I have it, I have it minus the fruits.Thats cos I do not like fruits tampering with my ice-cream. ( costs Rs 27/-)

2) Banana split ( 3scoops) between a split banana (Rs 28/-)

3) Chocolate choconut (27/-) A generous slab of Chocolate icecream, topped with chocolate sauce & sprinkled with roasted cashews ( yummmmy)

4) Parfait (Rs 27). Two mini slabs of ice-cream on a bowl of fruits n nuts, with a scoop of vanilla icecreamon top. My mouth is watering folks, and I will be going straight to the shop from here ( to hell with lunch).

5)Chocolate chocodad ( Rs 28). This is severd in a long glass.Chocolate ice cream and vanilla icecream seperated by a layer of crunchy nuts. This combo is amazing.

6) Beehive : This is served in a bowl.vanilla + strawberry+a generous helping of Roasted nuts+honey ( thisis yum)

7) Lichi with vanila-icecream. This is presented well too.The lichi is arranged like Lotus leaves, with a scoop of vanilla, topped with litchi crush. Absolutely divine this. There are 6-7 other combinations apart fom these, but I remember these as being the best. Oops! The best is yt to come. We have the Pabba’s special now, (costs 50/-), where we get to choose our scoops and our own combo of toppings. Thisi is where we lose total control. The toppings are a generous helping of the fruit crushes. And the best ones are the litchi crush, black current crush. Truly amazing , if you could picture folks like me eating ice-creams only for lunch n dinner like there’s no tomorrow.

The amazing thing is also the price. What costs 28/- here would cost me atleast Rs 60/ - in Mumbai, but the fact is that I would not enjoy the same in Mumbai. These ice-creams are fresh and creamy. And so it is my friends. If you are in mangalore., do visit Ideals Or Pabba’s. The only difference between the two places is that Ideals doesnt serve Thick Milkshakes. Adios folks, cant stay any longer..The ice-creams are beckoning....
