In The Night Train at Deoli by Ruskin Bond we have the theme of innocence, memories, connection, love, letting go, desire, acceptance and fear. Taken from his Collected Short Stories collection the story is narrated in the first person by an unnamed man and after reading the story the reader realizes that Bond may be exploring the theme of letting go.

The girl followed me behind the stall. "Do you want to buy a basket?" she asked they are very strong made of the finest cane" "no" I said "I dont want a basket". We stood looking at each other for what seemed a very long time and then she said "are you sure you dont want a basket? "alright give me one" I said and I took the one on the top and gave her a rupee hardly daring to touch her fingers.
