Before starting this review I must apologize our non hindi speaking readers cause I will be repeatedly using Guljar?s poetry all through this review. These lines are the part of one of the songs in this album.

Kisi mausam ka jhonka tha jo,
is diwaar par latki tasveer tircchi kar gaya hai
gaye savan mein ye deevanren yun seeli nahin thi,
na jane kyun is mein yun seelan aa gayi hai, daraaren pad gayi hain

Raincoat :The movie , as the word is out is a story of two estranged lovers who meet on one rainy afternoon to reminisce the old days . Directed by Rituparno Ghosh , the man who earlier made a Bengali movie Titli on the same concept .
Raincoat: The album
Director: Rituparno Ghosh
Music: Debjyoti Mishra
Lyrics: Rituparno Ghosh
Poetry: Gulzar
A poetic and melodious tale of pain and separation, undying love and a heart longing to meet his long lost love. That is what Raincoat album is all about. The simple yet effective lyrics by Rituparno Ghosh are perfectly complemented by semi classical tunes composed by Debjyoti Mishra and matured voices of Shubha Mudgal and Hariharan.
Mathura nagarpati kahe tum gokul jaao
Sung by: Shubha Mudgal
The first track in which the lyricist used Radha and Krishna , the eternal couple as medium . Shubha mudgal?s rich and melodious voice has actually lived this song rather than simply singing it.

Ye baarish gungunati hai, isi chat ki munderon par
ye ghar ki khidkiyon ke kaanch par ungliyon se , likh jati thi sandese
dekhti rehti hai baithi hui ab, band roshandano ke peeche se

Piya tora kaisa abhimaan
Sung by: Hariharan
My favorite song from the album I wish the movie makes the soul of this song alive.
Apne nayan se neer bahaye , apni jamuna khud aap hi banaye
laakh baar is mein hi nahaye, fir bhi na pura ho ye snaan
sukhe kesh, ruche bhesh, manva bejaan
Hariharan uplift this song to a greater height and his soft voice seems like weaving magic with the lyrics, drenched with longing and pain.
The occasional shrills of insects in the background, sublime sound of raging clouds makes the song very soulful.
Raha dekhe
Sung by : Shubha Mudgal
The song very much resembles to the Boul Gaan sung in Bengal.
Hai kitne baras beete , tum ghar na aaye
raah dekhe saavan , bhadon, dariya , pahaad
O re tere liye raah dekhe sajna ??sara sansaar
Soaked with all the yearnings of a heart which is waiting for the beloved since ages and cud wait till eternity.

Dopehren aisi lagti hain, bina mohron ke khane rakhe hon jaise
na koi khelne vala hai baaji aur, na koi chaal chalta hai

Akele ham nadiya kinare
Sung by: Shubha Mudgal
Shubha Mudgal?s heavenly voice seems to stab deep into one?s heart . The longing and yearning depicted in her voice cud be achieved only by a singer of her caliber and nobody else.
Maajhee tera naam to bata , fir kaise pukaren , tujhe kaise pukaren
Piya tora kaisa abhimaan
Sung by : Shubha Mudgal
Poetry: Guljar
The song this time sung by Shubha Mudgal achieved an altogether new meaning complimented with Guljar?s sahab?s poetry. The song says a lot about the theme of the movie as well.
The last three tracks sung by Meena Misra and group are typical north Indian wedding songs. I just assume that they fit somewhere in the movie .

na din hota hai na ab raat hoti hai, ab sabhi kucch ruk gaya hai
vo kya mausam ka jhonka tha jo, is diwar par lagi tasveer tirchi kar gaya hai
~Guljar~

A decent album with five marvellous classical tracks , a must buy for those who understand it.
