A couple of months ago, I saw Yash Pandits face staring out from a hoarding for a film called Rok Sako To Rok Lo to be directed by Arindam Choudhury.
Yash used to be a friend of a friend in college, so I thought, Why not go see the film? and last night, I dragged out my poor husband for it (despite his many protests)
The films credits mention a Thank you to Yash Chopra for being our inspiration. It really lifted my spirits, and I thought Wow! Is Yash Chopra associated with this film in some way? It mustnt be bad then!
Half way through the film, I decided that Mr Chopra should sue Mr Choudury for defamation.
The film is a half-baked mished-mashed bad imitation of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander.....with one difference ~ The supposed hero and his gang of cronies are not the ones you sympathise with! They poke fun at the richie rich gang of the better school, pass lewd remarks at girls and fail repeatedly in class!
Let me illustrate....theres one point on the film when Richie Rich from the better school is beating up Hero from the lesser school (interspersed with gyan on types of kicks and why you should be in a good school) and your mind is saying, Aur maar saale ko! instead of the usual, Aww poor boy!
Somethings definitely not right here, no? The audience is supposed to sympathise with the Hero
And thats not the worst part!
The story has zero originality, the plot is too predictable, the actors look like theyre in a school play, the songs are painfully boring, and the main leads ham through their performances (with the exception of Namrata Shirodkar, who only serves coffee in designer clothes and smiles at the camera!)
And yes....theres another piece in this mind-numbing khichdi ~ Mr Deol, Of course!
Unfortunately, he doesnt do much, except say things like, Doctors and engineers dont run the world. Friendship does. [WHAT?!!?!] However, I must give him credit for adding that extra dash of humour with his Egyptian style dance moves.
Im being mean, I know....but its only cos I wasted 2.15 hrs of my life trying to figure out what was going on! And no, its not a short film....we just couldnt watch the last 45 mins!
Humne apni shaam barbaad hone se Rok Li.
Aap bhi apne aap ko iss film ke liye jaane se Rok Sako to Rok Lo!
