Nikhil “Nick” Arora(Saif Ali Khan( is an Architect by education but a Chef by Profession. He works as a chief chef for an Indian restaurant in Melbourne under a psychic boss and dreams of owning a restaurant by the beachside. Amber “Amby” Malhotra(Preity Zinta) is a medical student by education and a RJ by profession. She works for local radio station targeted at Indians settled in Melbourne called “Salaam Namaste 105.1 FM”. After Nick does not show for a celebrity show on Amby’s show, she decides to teach him a lesson by bad mouthing him and the restaurant he works for. When they eventually meet in person at a common friend’s wedding they fall in love with eac other. The difference is that none of them want to get married so they have a live in relationship and they move in to a fine beach house owned by a nut case landlord (Javed Jaffrey in an hilarious cameo and with the best lines in the movie) who is a cross between Paul “Crocodile Dundee” Hogan, Clint Eastwood and Feroz Khan in a Cowboy Hindi Movie. (Do all Australian based movie really need a Crocodile Dundee Reference??). One fine day when Amby discovers she is pregnant with Nick’s child, their relationship comes under litmus paper test. The biggest question arises is that can a guy and a girl be “just friends, living together” without getting married ? Touching light hearted movies and considering the fact that the entire movie is based in Australia, the de facto relationship actually seems real. Superbly supported by Arshad Warsi, Tania Zaetta. Jugal Hansraj is wasted in his role. Largely inspired from last year’s hit Hum Tum and also very very very largely inspired by 1995 comedy hit Nine Months starring Hugh Grant. Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta play their roles to perfection. Impressive debut by Siddharth Anand. The Songs are quite melodious except that they were not really required in the film. Watch out for the hilarious scene when Both Arshad Warsi and Tania Zaetta call up Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta at the same time to announce that they are becoming parents.
