Boost it up..

Would you like to be able to surf the net in a faster fashion? Of course you would. Would you like to be able to do so for free? Ok, dumb question. Fast and free are available if you are willing to take a few minutes to download easy to set up software.

I know, it sounds too good to be true and that was the first thought that entered my mind. However, I can assure you that these downloads actually work. I was tired of waiting on my computer to ’’think’’ and decided to give a few downloads a shot. What harm could come from having a faster connection? Ah, absolutely none by my estimation. So, here are a few tips to improving your surfing speed:

  1. NETSONIC: Netsonic is a FREE download that can be found at https://web3000.com. The program remembers the sites that you visit most frequently and allows you to view these pages almost instantaneously when you return to the sites. In other words, you can make your way around MS faster than you ever imagined.

The program is not recommended for those who already operate at speeds of T1 or faster. Of course if this is the case, you probably are not reading this MS. However, anyone who is operating at a speed of 56k or less will benefit greatly.

The download process is painless and relatively quick. For me the whole process was done in the time it took to iron three shirts. An added bonus is the gator program that comes along with Netsonic. Gator is a program that remembers your personal information- name, address, email, credit card number, etc.- in order to make filling out forms quick and easy. Netsonic does permit you to decide whether to download gator.

  1. GO!ZILLA: The software for Go!zilla can be found at https://gozilla.com and also involves a relatively quick download. In fact, making the download process easier is the purpose of go!zilla. The program allows you to gather images, audio, text, and video files and with drop- and- drag ease. For instance, saving a file involves simply dragging the file onto the interface. A leech will button also allows you to gather all the files linked to a given page.

Another plus is that the program can determine how long a particular download will take. Finally, go!zilla can resume downloads of files that were partially downloaded.

The download is FREE and will speed things up for you if you work with a lot of audio, video, or images- who doesn’t. The download takes about the same amount of time as it takes me to iron two shirts.

  1. EASYMTU- All you need for easymtu can be found at https://members.tripod.com/~EasyMTU. Please note the variations in lower and upper case letters and no, you do not need to join to get the software. Easymtu is a FREE program that will optimize your computer setings automatically. In other words, the program will read your computer settings and determine if they are maximized for fast internet surfing.

Food for thought: Windows 95 and 98 have default settings that actually slow down your surfing capabilities. Easymtu brings your speeds back to where they should be. All you do is download the software and the program does everything else for you.

The program is free and the download is measured at three ironed shirts. You will notice a faster connection unless your speeds are already maxed out.

  1. TWEAK YOUR SETTINGS: Ok, this is not a site and does not involve any internet downloads- hopefully. Additionally, I would recommend easymtu before doing this since easymtu will do all of this for you. However, to tweak your own settings simply follow these directions:

  2. Go to start/settings

  3. Select control panel

  4. Click on modems

  5. Select general

  6. If generic or standard modem is shown your not getting the most out of your modem

  7. Locate the software that came with the modem and install the proper drivers

  8. If you cannot locate the software go to the manufacturers website and download it or go to DriverGuide.com and you will find a huge database of drivers.

  9. Finally, head to the following site:

bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

The MSN site will tell you how fast your speed is. You do not need to download anything and the site is FREE. The site also works with virtually any and all types of connections.

SUMMARY:

The above sites and downloads are only a few of the ways you can speed up your connection. However, they are FREE and I found them through various respected publications. Hence, you can be assured that they are not going to track your every internet click or contain a virus.

The first three sites I have listed have produced a noticeable difference in the speed with which I am able to navigate the internet and it took a minimum of effort to improve the speed. Best of all, all of the sites are free. Best of luck.
