I had a very bad experience when I moved from Airtel postpaid to Tata DoCoMo postpay under MNP. After using the same number on Airtel for almost 10 years, I had decided to move to Tata DoCoMo thinking they have better and cheaper 3G and calling plans. I didnt have even a small hint of whats in store for me.
In summary,
I applied for the porting and called Tata DoCoMo cust care to execute the request.
A Tata DoCoMo executive came to my place, got the form filled and gave me a new Tata DoCoMo SIM to be used when Airtel disconnects the service.
Airtel fulfilled their obligation and disconnected the service at the informed time.
However, the brand new Tata DoCoMo SIM failed to register with their towers.
I was out of mobile service for 5 days and had to undergo a great struggle to get the SIM replaced and services restored.
Tata DoCoMo billed me for the time when the fresh SIM was not activated but the account and billing was activated from day 1.
About the 3G coverage, its average at best. I kept losing 3G while passing through Outer Ring Road and Sarjapur Rd areas which are full of IT companies and people which is probably their biggest target customer base.
The payment via their website doesnt work on any browsers apart from IE. That too after a few tries, sometimes after you have made the payment, it times out with no updates on whether they got the payment or not.
When I reported the javascript errors I saw on Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari, the idiot customer care guy told me its a "PC problem" and then an "internet problem" and then asked me to restart my laptop a few times !!!
After this experience, I have decided to move out of Tata DoCoMo as soon as the 90 days lockin period expires. This company doesnt deserve a loyal customer like me.
