Let me begin with Tata Indicom - one of the worst internet service providers, one of the worst mobile phone service providers - as far as billing related issues are concerned. The technology and service are not bad, but they make every possible attempt to fleece the customers.
Take the much hyped Photon+. The charges are steep and its slow as a snail at most places. Only at a few places you get slightly better speed. But look at their advertisements - certainly misleading.
Let me talk about Tata Sky. The service is good no doubt, but have you noticed the charges and the deductions they keep on making? A few years of Tata Sky subscription and with that money I could probably buy a 55 inch latest LED TV.
Let me finish this review (though not quite within context) with the example of Tata Nano. It is the worst car on Indian roads, but with the hype they created a lot many people lined up to book it. Not a single Nano was priced at Rs. 1 lakh, the minimum one had to pay was Rs. 1.55 lakhs. What they got is nothing better than an auto-rickshaw. I am sure all Nano owners are regretting it as to why they didnt put in a little more money and buy the time tested Alto.
I cannot comment on Tata Steel or Tata Trucks for I dont have any idea about those. Neither can I talk about Taj Mahal Hotel, for I probably earn in a month what it takes to dine there once. Incidentally, I read a lovely book, Jab se you have loved me...the story of an Airhostess and an IITian recently, where two young lovers flee a 5-star hotel afer seeing the prices on the menu card. I would probably have a similar experience if I ventured into any of the Taj Hotels.
The brand name Tata at one point in time stood for honest business policies, but now their motive seems to somehow cheat the customers.
