I was born in the Nineteen Fifties. Technology was there. We had automobiles all imported, chemical, steel, telecommunications and many more technologies. Yes there were aeroplanes too. And Computers in big R&D labs and defence.
Now in the new mellenium, a few more technologies have been added. The biggest revolution started in 1980/90. The advent of Cable TV, FM Radio, Personal Computing and the Internet. Transportation was revolutionised by availability of many brands of smart cars and vehicles. The defence sector saw the build up of the H-Bomb, smart bombs, supersonic jet fighters, stealth ships, aircrafts and nuclear submarine. Offshore oil industry pumped zillions of barrels of oil per day. Air travel got revolutionised by big big airplanes like 747.
Many more technologies were added like education (MBA, M Tech), the stock market, the building and construction technologies, health care, pharma, economics and so forth.
All this led to life style changes for the better and worse...more for the worse.
What do I see now?
Well look...all systems/technologies are supposed to better the well being of human beings on earth. If that be so, lets see what has happened over the last 50 yrs.
In my humble opinion: TECHNOLOGIES/SYSTEMS/ECONOMICS/GLOBALISATION has done more harm than good to mankind, the environment and the planet earth. The more the freedom given to people (read DEMOCRACY), THE MORE THE ABUSE.
Wild life: Thumbs down
Environment : Devastation
Pollution: Air poisioned.
Human misery index: Over population, entire continents like Africa devastated by war, hunger, HIV.
TV: Has changed lifestyles, corrupted young and old minds.
Internet: Is it news that the largest number of hits are scored by porn sites?
Automation: Has made people lazy and obese. There is a lift/car/bus/train/auto/rick. People have forgotten to walk or simply dont want to.
Medical sciences: has given relief to humans...but people now live longer way beyond their useful age.
Wars: Devastation as never before caused by advance in technology.
Quality of life in Cities: Poor...most cities were heavens. Look whats happened now. Traffic, montrosities called buildings made of cement and steel, all clustered, people living one on top of the other.
Religion: Intolerence. The entire muslim population in the world hates USA and European folks. Make no mistake, even religion has changed and is a technology by it self
Economics and wealth: Has helped just a quarter of the human population on earth.
Food: Over production the world over, yet 25 percent of humans sleep hungry. In India among middle class families, even children are over fed and fat. Junk food and all.
14: Guns: A plenty and cheap. Roses: Few and costly.
15: Psychosomatic Drugs: Drives economies of many small countries. They produce heroine/cocaine. Consumers? The affluent West and USA. Something wrong with the people of technologically most advanced nations.
The Oceans: Many species of fish extinct. Overfishing.
Human wants and greed: No limits.
Make no mistake. Technology has failed the human race as a whole and devastated planet earth. This continues by the minute, by the hour by the day.
