Dear all,
If you have heard of this film, and youve not seen it as yet, if you have then your as lucky as me and if youve not heard of itat all, then what the hell are you doing?Go watch it !!
This is one of the many movies which is not given too much importance by Hollywood. It is surely one of the greatest produced by Hollywood.
In this review, Im not going to reveal the story but only give a basic idea for those who want to hire it and watch it. This movie goes back to the mid 1800s where the British ruled most of the world. In this time period, an Engineer, John Patterson played by Val Kilmer(Batman Forever, The Saint) is sent to the village of Tsavo in Africa. Here there are all balck workers along with him who has the task to build a bridge along a river. His time to do it is restricted and if he fails he will have to bear severe consequences. He leaves his pregnant wife to return in 4 months. But he doesnt know whats in store for him. There are 2 man-eating lions in the wilderness of the village which have caused unrest among the workers. These lions are called The Ghost and the Darkness. Now the major issue for Patterson is not to build the bridge but first kill these lions and restore faith in his workers who wont work till the lions are done away with.
Micheal Douglas(Dont Say A Word, Romancing the Stone) as Remington gives great support to Kilmer and together the movie sways in the direction which just gets better and better. The highest plus point during watching this film will is its cinematography. The camera angles when the lions are shown are just fantastic and the set of the village, Kilmer, Douglas, costumes, the black workers give equal strength to the overall appearance. Om Puri(East is East, Ardh Satya) as Abdullah, head of the workers is capturing. Once again, Im so proud that an Indian is shown in this highly rated Hollywood film. Director Stephen Hopkins is succesful in conveying his movie to his audience and also to let you know, it is based on a real life incident.
So, just sit back and enjoy this thriller, its surely something Youve never seen before.
