My ex ride

I had purchased this bike in 2004 and sold it in 2010( 6 years use) and I have just now

purchased a HH Splendor plus, to replace it . After riding the splendor now I miss my crux .

First the bad things about crux .

The crux(S) has two main problem areas . i) The ignition coil will short and die if your bike is wet

for very long( i.e monsoons), I found this out the hard way . After that, replaced the ignition-coil,

and covered it and the connections securely with electrical tape, and kept a cloth inside the neck

between the handle and tank so that rain water may not drip below the tank . Never had anymore problems in this area ever .

ii) a bit skinny 2.5 x18 tyre on front wheel( TVS) .

It is not happy being started in the morning, so you have to use choke once in the

morning everyday . it then warms up in one minute idling only and never shows this behavior again

in the day, ever( not even once) do not worry, that is the correct tuning for the bike and it’s nature .

no adjustments needed .

the good things are

i) 130mm brakes on both wheels gives positive progressive braking . You can easily lock both wheels

if you apply medium brake pressure . Comparatively splendor has 110mm rear and 130mm front brakes

and are of a mushy uncertain feel . Crux is way better on slippery wet roads . I don’t know about others

but I love hard brakes, gives me a secure feeling cause I know that in an emergency . I can stop . I have

had many such instances .

ii) great mileage with my bad riding . I rode it mainly slow in low gears constantly in city traffic still got

over all 58-60kms per litre .

iii) very reliable robust and low maintenance, I have run my bike for more than a year without any service, except for changing oil myself, never ever got stranded on the road( except for few punctures), thru heavy rains and water-logging .

iv) the simple round dome headlight is way brighter and better focused and easily adjusted than splendor plus . Easier to open and wipe clean if fogged .

v) better gear lever arrangement and placement and toe-heel shifter and smoother robust gears than any

other bike . I seldom engaged clutch to change gears, no problems ever . The longer stroke smooth

engine needs fewer gear changes / clutch and can easily run at 25kmph in 4th gear .

vi) you can start the bike in any gear by depressing the clutch and kick only, No need to shift to neutral

at traffic lights, a great convenience . One kick start and better longer kick lever .

v) it’s very light weight and easy to handle and ride .

vi) fewer cosmetic plastic parts to break . Lower maintenance, I never needed to replace a cable or clutch

plate in my 40000 Kms .

vii) Firm wide straight seat and perfect straight-back riding position like rx135/100 . No back pain ever .

Overall in my experience with these two bikes plus an older Rx135, this is the lowest cost yet the

most efficient reliable comfy hardy and underrated bike in this category . When I replace again I am almost

sure to buy the Crux again if it is available till then .

Edit: I bought my bike from Leader’s-Yamaha dealer in P A shah Road, kolkata, they have authorised

fully equipped yamaha service / parts counter in-house and gave me fantastic attention and care

throughout my ownership .highly recomended .
