I often go to Bali. May be Bali is the reason why I didn't go back to India sooner. Bali is compact, convenient, lavish and comfortable place. It's a great holiday spot and for me it's a substitute for traveling India. For India is farther, much bigger and takes much more time, money and energy. I go to Bali. It reminds me of India although quite different. Much smaller scale but still has similarity.
Both Hindu dominant. Muslims co exist..
Very religious people. Colorful rituals and festivals throughout the year.
People live in the big joint family. Offerings everywhere. Good food. Music, dancing, art, craft and fashion.
First time I went to Bali in 1984. Since then I often go back like more than 12 times. I notice significant development especially in tourism. Numbers of most luxurious villas and good European restaurants. It used have only a few TV at some places and people gathered to watch. But now each house has one with satelite.
They became richer but most of the money they make is spent more and more for the festivals and rituals. These elaborated festivals attract more tourist. I think they are quite wise. When the first Bali boom came, they built a hotel with ten story building. But they thought it doesn't suit their island. And the government made a regulation which prohibits buildings higher than palm trees. There are thousands of hotels now. Some of them makes me wonder "Have I ever seen such tall palm tree?" but generally this rule is maintained. Gorgeous but still authentic. Made of palm trees, bamboo, corals and marbles.
Their rites of passage are very interesting. I think their Hinduism is a bit different from Hindu in India .I'll post about it someday.
Please somebody help my Hindi Lessons. Correct me.
