As I always mention, there is only a very little awareness of Indian films here in Japan. It shows a big contrast from neighbor countries like Koria or China, which are expanding it.
My Name is Khan did not screen but DVD rental was available with Japanese subtitle. Japanese are not gifted with language skill so in order to success in anything here, localized language is essential. However, only a handful of Indian films are available with Japanese subs. I think there is a market if only they give a little additional work.
Recently, "My Name Khan" started to sell on DVD due to the public demand! I am happy that some of my friends started to watch the Indian cinema from this.
In my opinion, Japan is going through hard time and we need more heartwarming stories with humanity well-portrayed. Like old hindi films. I hope good movies survive and thrive in India to encourage the depressed weary people all over the world.
