BETTER TO LIVE IN THE HEARTS..... (A POEM)

Better to live in the hearts of loved ones

Than in their sight and immediate presence!

Distance lends an ideal utopian perspective,

Replete with fragrant memories and nostalgia!

Why do vignettes of one’s children’s childhood

Delight more than their tactile present state!

All glow in the coloured image of their babes

Than the current pictures of their exploits!

Why is the fast pace of modern life too enervating

To a dreamer and poet loving an easier stride!

Is it because our spartan past’s rich endowments

Allure more than this age of plenty and no soul!
