Over 140,000 Tucson SUVs are to be recalled by Hyundai Motors in Puerto Rico and the United States due to a defect in the airbag assembly.
Few vehicles belonging to model years 2011 – 2014 will be recalled – total of 137,500 units in the US and 3,500 in Puerto Rico.
As per a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, 2 bolts fastening the driver’s airbag and the steering wheel may turn loose, possibly causing injury to the driver in case of vehicle crash.
The firm is presently struggling with a judgment from the US court, given on May 13. The verdict ordered the company to pay a compensation of$248 million for the damages caused in a 2011 collision that killed 2 teenagers who were traveling in a Tiburon sports car. The company is seeking an instant appeal against the judgment.
According to industry watchers, both the US verdict and recall is likely to have a restricted impact on the earnings of the company.
