PRAYER IS EASY (A POEM)

Prayer is easy;

Deities wait in the park

After a dark night,

Eagerly for obeisance

From morning walkers!

Devotees stand for a micro-second,

Chanting a mantra silently,

Meaningless for no thought follows

To ponder its cosmic significance.

Hurriedly, they touch their cheeks

With their right hand fingers

And bless themselves for the day.

Sanctified, they move on

To pick flowers from the park

And suck the sweetness out

From the lives of others!

In a rat race be mechanical;

No need to be human and loving!

These are decrepit concepts,

Consigned to distant memory

Of days of sweetness and light!
