The book I am reviewing in this post is Thud by Terry Pratchett which is one of the best novels I have read & which I borrowed from the library. I have read most of the discworld series of novels & this is my favourite. Discworld is a kind of disc shaped world that defies logic & the logic Terry uses is very funny. This world is populated by people like werewolves, vampires, trolls & dwarves. Their trying to get along with one another mirrors rascism & feminism in our world. Terry deals with quite serious subjects in a very funny way. In this book a prominent troll winds up murdered which it turns out the trolls have been mining where they shouldn't. Anyway a so called game, the thud of the title is likely to break out between the trolls & dwarves & the police need to clear the case up before that happens. Rather amusingly the police are desintegrating all around Commander Sam Vimes & I think it's quite funny that he has to read Where's My Cow? To his son every night along with all the farmyard noises. That was released as a companion book to this specifically for young children. I'll finish this post by telling you something rather funny I have a friend who had heard of Terry Pratchett but knew nothing about the discworld series. Anyway one day he decided to read one of his novels & he read about half the book & thought none of this is making sense & gave up reading it. I can't remember which book he tried to read.
