Originally from Southern Africa, I now live in Mumbai, India. . Books, Books, Books. And some more. I yearn to travel but thanks to the hated devil called Academics, cannot. (or atleast, not enough)

I think I've heard the entire gamut of critique about this book. I have to check it out! PS: I wonder where these Tolkien wannabes (Paolini, for one) get their characters' bizarre names from!?
I thought Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman lost something in their collaboration. I like each of their individual works more than I liked Good Omens. It was not bad, per se; just that it didn't give the goods I expect from either of the writers.
Though I got it from the Terry Pratchett-Neil Gaiman book called 'Good Omens'. I don't recommend it.
Nice one, arwenevenstar: that makes for an excellent ending! (Hate it when people are aghast at the idea of Harry dying.) runu aimer, i like to think I'm the last surviving champion (though i'm neither last nor champion!) of ye olde style. Short and sweet are for other buggers!

What a completely horrible review! Just because the story is somewhat autobiographical in nature, does not mean it is an out an out autobiography. Your accusations of depicting characters like this or like that and the futility of blaming God and what not is so stunning in its pointlessness! Carr read more...
Okay. The Amazing Race 8 (Or Family Edition as it was called) was much, much worse than I could have imagined: Boring families (of 4) doing exciting tasks such as seeing the world's largest Office Chair (Woo!) and 'loggin on to AOL' (My God!) was a little too much to take. And they didn't even leav read more...
If you read my review, you'd see something to the effect of: 'I like it the way it is [i.e short]';'and not in 2 parts'. I've also stated, quite clearly you'd agree, that I'dve been 'blown away' if ONLY the ending were changed (not too much to ask for? Just a couple of scenes?) So I think your com read more...

The book-sellers, being 'hawkers' were evicted by the BMC in August. No idea whether they've returned or not. It's fine that the pirated book-sellers are gone (it's evil to buy from them!) but the removal of the 2nd hand book dealers is truly tragic. Come back! Sad that the BMC and the government read more...

You really should have edited that. There was a lot there that could have been snipped out without diluting your message.

Actually: maybe you're all wrong. I'm pretty sure that the original was Pop Idol from Britain, which was spawned across continents, later. I guess, just because it's 'US of A' and hence extremely vital for our wannabe survival that we pay more attention to the US version. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought the show was completely without substance. I mean, who wants to watch 1 hour of continuous box-opening? And annoying Madhavan? I mean, there's nothing to watch! If they snipped out everything between the box opening etc., then it'd be a tab bit more bearable.

and did you know the a lot of the stuff in the book is actually true!? I was a little startled when I found that out. Vikram Chandra's brilliantly woven fact and fiction together in his book. Wonder when we can expect his next...

I found the book had a nice feel about it which overcame the cheesiness of some of the stories. However, I felt it was not 'hardcore' storytelling as compared to his first book 'Red Earth and Pouring Rain' which I totally loved.
Thanks for all of your comments! And I wonder too, pri20, if they left all the important side-stuff for the 5th movie. I mean, cinematically, the 5th book is very uneventful. So what if its so thick! Maybe they'll make it more fun to watch by adding all the stuff they omitted in the 4th movie then read more...

GO92.5 is definitely the sound of Mumbai, irrespective of how many people actually listen to it. Jaggu and Tarana absolutely rock on GoodMorningMumbai, and should get an award or something for tickling me bright and early in the morning!

You (almost) wrote out my very own thoughts about the movie! I also noticed that Neville was thin, when he's ostensibly plump (as he was in previous movies?) and definitely so in the book. And the Dumbledore thing is too true. It really stands out of everything. I also agree that this was muuuuuc read more...
