The Bitter Truth
Yathaarth – The Truth
Yathaarth is set in the village called Pipariya, it’s the story about Budhai (Raghuveer Yadav) who is a chandaal (a person who burns dead bodies in crematorium). Budhai gets married to Phulwa. Within a year of their marriage Phulwa expires after giving birth to a girl child.
Budhai brings up his daughter Bijuria. Most of the days Bijuria has to remain hungry. Bijuria gets good food and new clothes only when there is a death in the village. Bijuria is so much affected by hunger that the moment she sees a dead body being brought the thought of getting good food and clothes makes her so happy that she begins to dance. On days when there is no death Bijuria seeks food from some of the villagers. Budhai goes to the village doctor to get medicines for him. He enquires with the doctor about the welfare of the villagers, when he comes to know that some one is critical and counting his or her days he becomes very happy thinking that he will get something to feed his little daughter.
Years passes by, Bijuria grows up (Shraddha Nigam) and attains her age. The night when Bijuria attains her age she suffers from pain. Budhai immediately rushes to the mid-wife and requests her to come to assistance of Bijuria, the mid-wife sends him saying that she will come the next morning. Budhai is heart broken as how to explain this natural phenomenon to his daughter.
From the time of Bijuria’s attaining age, the village money lender who is a widower has an eye on her he even proposes to Budhai that if Budhai permits he is willing to keep Bijuria as his mistress.
In the meanwhile Budhai befriends a truck driver Jeete (Milind Gunaji). Jeete whenever passing through Pipariya halts at Budhai’s place to have a pot of smoke (Chillum).
Even after growing up Bijuria does not leave up her habit of dancing on seeing a dead body. Now villagers gets irritated by her this act they even ask Budhai to consult some exorcist. However Bijuria with a help of her little friend Raghu drives off the Exorcist.
The village Sarpanch’s son and his friend once tries to molest Bijuria somehow she manages to escape from them. Later once at night they try to kidnap Bijuria however they are confronted by Jeete and Budhai, Jeete beats and drives them away.
Panchayat is called and the panchayat blames Budhai and Jeete for having injured the boys. However after Budhai reveals the fact the Panchayat questions him as to why Jeete, who is an outsider staying at his place. At that point of time to save himself and his daughter from any further questions or embarrassment Budhai tells the Panchayat that his daughter is engaged to Jeete. When asked for proof the village temple priest and an old muslim man comes forward stating they are witness to the engagement. After this incidence Budhai gets his daughter married to Jeete. Jeete keeps Bijuria very happy.
Few days after marriage Jeete takes his truck and goes on a trip for about 7 days. Bijuria keeps on counting the days. 15 Days passes by but Jeete does not turn up. Villagers starts commenting that as usual Jeete must have been satisfied with Bijuria so he has left. Bijuria eagerly waits for him. One day as she waits for him she hears the sound of people chanting ’’Ram naam satya hai’’ which indicates the arrival of a corpse. As usual she comes out and starts dancing. While dancing she gets a glimpse of the dead person on looking at the dead person’s face she realises that the corpse is of her husband Jeete. She dances and falls dead on the corpse.
Yathaarth is nothing but real bitter truth. The plot of the film though simple touches the heart. Rajesh Seth the Director of this movie needs to be applauded for having the guts to make a movie on such a subject.
He has to be applauded especially for the following scenes.
The way he has tried to convey unity amongst two religions unity by showing the temple priest and an old muslim guy as close friends who are ready to help each other.
The scene which displays Bijuria attaining her age and when as a father Budhai is unable to decide how to explain it to her is heart touching and it shows the condition of a motherless daughter and the hardship and embarrassment the father has to face.
The scene where one of Budhai’s relative (who is also a Chandaal, in Mumbai) comes to meet him portrays the difference in Income, living style and way of thinking of persons in the same profession but at different locations.
However as a Director Rajesh Seth has to be criticized for the following.
For having tried to commercialise such a good film by including songs which are not completely related or required in the story.
For the Directorial flaw in the film. Immediately after the scene when Bijuria attains her age it is said ’’Isi tarah kuch saal beet jaate hain’’, though it is said few year passes off, not a single change or growth is shown in the character of Raghu, Bijuria’s friend.
Performance wise each and every character has done justice to the role offered to them.
There is nothing worthwhile to mention about the music of Muralidhar.
On the whole Yathaarth is a different movie which though may not be appealing to front benchers it will surely be appreciated by matured audience.
Folks the above film is yet to be released. However this review has been written after having got an opportunity to view the Preview show of the movie.
Look out for this great movie when it hits a theatre near you.
