R... Rajkumar Songs Reviews

Prabhu Deva returns with another masala flick ’R.Rajkumar’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles. Prabhu Deva films are not known to have great music, even though the films become huge hits. The best that can be expected is one or two chartbuster songs which would be forgotten once the promotions stop. He teams up for the first time with the hit machine Pritam and it is surely an association to watch out for. Pritam had churned out many hit tracks for Shahid’s last film Phata Poster Nikla Hero, so lets check out whether he does the same for this one too.

The album starts with ’**Gandi Baat**’ written by Anupam Amod. Pritam instantly starts off in Rowdy Rathore mode. Mika Singh delivers his lines in his characteristic fashion and he is joined by Kalpana Patowari who does not make any impact. Some portions of the song are influenced by dhating naach of Phata Poster Nikla Hero, and the song is a rehash of Rowdy Rathore tunes, bringing nothing new to the table. One expected a stronger opening track as this one is too thanda, even for the masses for whom this song is targeted. An average beginning.

My Rating:2.5/5

Next up is a strangely titled track’**Saree ke fall sa**’ sung by Nakash Aziz and Antara Mitra with lyrics penned by Mayur Puri. This one is an instantly catchy song and Pritam goes to Sajid Wajid territory to bring on the first chartbuster of the album. The male portions would have best suited for Mika Singh, and Nakash tries his best to copy him. It is Antara Mitra who has the maximum fun here, and elevates the track further. A typical Prabhu Deva song, enjoy till it lasts!

My Rating:3/5

Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan croon **Mat Maari**, a fun song. Kunal returns to the singing scene after a long time, and it’s a highly situational number he has chosen for his comeback. It has very low audio appeal and one has to view the video for the song to register. Sunidhi Chauhan is more of an actor here, than a singer as she delivers some dialogues. The song ends with the iconic line "Khaamosh" and the listener would feel the same too!

My rating:1/5

The next track is’Dhoka dari’ and Arijit singh and Palak Mucchal handle the mike. It’s a breezy love song and the tune and orchestration fall into the trademark Pritam territory. One  of the better songs heard till now, Nilesh Mishra’s lyrics too appeals. Palak Mucchal sounds too similar to Shreya Ghoshal, and if not checked in the credits, one would assume it is Shreya behind the mike. It would serve her better if she develops her own style. Arijit, the flavor of the season is dependable as always and does a fine job. But one expected more from a Pritam romantic track.

My Rating:3/5

The last song is **Kaddu katega**, written by Ashish Pandit and sung by Antara Mitra. This is another massy song, but is still situational even with all the masala thrown around. There is also a slight Phata Poster. hangover here. Antara Mitra is strictly ok and tries hard to copy Mamta Sharma and fails. Thankfully, it is a short song, much to the delight of many listeners. Even for an outright massy song, a semblance of a good tune and a catchy rhythm are essential which is totally missing here, and hence the song does not register at all.

My Rating:1/5

**Gandi Baat ** returns in another version, but this time sung by Nakash Aziz and Ritu Pathak. Mika was just perfect for this track and Nakash does a very average and a lazy job. It required the zest and nashila voice of Mika to pull off this very mediocre composition, which he did in the first version. Nothing exciting.

My rating:2/5

There is also a bad remix of ’Saree ke fall sa’ with added beats. With remixes, one looks forward to something new and not just added beats and faster tempo. The standard of remixes has come down drastically in Bollywood songs, for some strange reason.

Pritam does attempt something different by creating a soundtrack aimed primarily at the masses, but fails. Apart from saree ke fall sa and dhoka dari, none of the other songs impress. Though gandi baat too has the potential to be a chartbuster, it lacks the fizzle. Though expectations were not high, this soundtrack does not meet even the average expectations and it’s quite disappointing. The absence of one or two big hits will surely hurt the opening of the film. Enjoy some of the songs till they last as it’s a forgettable album.
