A FOREWORD

A thing of beauty is a joy forever . How very true ? After my incessant tirade against some very badly made films this is my review on a film that’s close to my heart, very close...

When I sat down to watch this movie stretching over a couple of hours I never expected myself to be transformed into a die-hard fan of this movie. I never thought Prof. Jon Nash would become to me an epitome of human will and love. I never even in the wildest of my expectations believe that so wonderful an impact could be made with so simple a story.

IN SHORT

The story in all its simplicity is about the troubled life of Dr. John Nash with all the due respect. But then in all its simplicity it has the most complex saga of love ever told. It is about the life of a brilliant mathematical genius John Nash which is actually based on the true life story of a mathematical genius of the same name. It is about how he wins over his serious mental schizophrenia to go on win the Nobel Prize.

| THE STORY IN DETAIL |

+=================+

If you havent seen it I request you to skip this section.

THE BEGINNING

As the film progresses we come to learn about our protagonist, John Nash a serious introvert, who is a brilliact mathematician but also an eccentric genius as is the case with every introvert. We slowly start to emphathise with the single minded dedication of Nash to his subject who is hell-bent on making a truly original idea for his thesis and in the process loses out bitterly on the social end. But then he makes great friends with his roommate and his niece who love him and constantly encourage him, but more about them later. Finally he proposes the ’Nash Equilibrium’ a seminal contribution to maths which 25 years later fetches him the Nobel Prize.

THE LOVE

Though an introvert, after some failed attempts at women, he finally falls in love with his student who goes on to become his wife. In the meantime, Nash starts working for a very mysterious government undercover agent. But this work starts turning dangerous and he starts fearing for his life.

THE SHOCK AND THE PAIN

What comes as a shock to us is that these mysterious characters in Nash’s life were never there in the first place. He is diagonised to be suffering from a serious case of schizophrenia and is hallucinating. This breaks Nash mentally and psychologically. He is reclused to a sanitarium from which he is cured after persistent efforts from his wife.

THE CURE

If laughter is a big cure, then love is the best cure of ’em all. Through the persistent and monumental patience of his wife he slowly recuperates through his own will power. Though the delusions are still there he chooses to avoid them throughout his life. And finally he makes it to the Nobels...

THE BEAUTY - LOVE

I never knew what love was. I was never much enthralled by the eternal love stories handed down to us by our progenitors. But seeing this tale, I understand how great love is, was and will be. It is this single feeling of the humans that I am assured in spite of all the strife and wars riddling our world I believe we will survive tha hardest tests of the times.

It is about the single most different feeling that separates the man from the beast, the human from the humane, the god from the devil.

THE BEAUTY - PATIENCE

I really cant but admire the titanic patience of Nash’s wife( pardon me for having forgotten her name ). There’s no love where there’s no patience, no understanding, no devotion. Only where the mind is free of ego can love survive and thrive as we see.

THE HUMAN MIND

How can we but not admire the singular will of Nash to try to try to cure his mind when actually that was where the problem actually was. His logic came to his rescue proving he is a real mathematician all along.

THE MOVIE

The best display of acting skills are seen here by Russell Crowe and Jenniffer Connelly. Their chemistry is just awesome. Its still a puzzle why couldnt Crowe a garner an Oscar for this movie. No one could have ever better maybe even John Nash himself. Jenniffer is love personified. Ron Howard has made a gem of a movie. The main backbone of the movie is however the music - the best.

THE LESSONS

It is a fitting lesson to all of the people that believe that only violence and divorce can be the only way a problem be solved. Love is the only feeling that a blind can see, a deaf can hear, a dumb can speak. It is what makes us human. It is what makes us remain so.

If Nash could overcome his crippling inability to win the Nobels through love, cant we overcome our mere egos and differences to make this world a better place to be, atleast for the sake our future generations, as a gift worthy to them, as a reminiscent of a memory to never forget a feeling that we treasure the most.

IMVHO, Only Love, Universal Love is the CURE to all our problems

P.S

I know I can never give justice to the beauty of a film that ’A Beautiful Mind’ is, but do see it even if u have learnt the story. Its an experience to be cherished.
