The son of one of India’s biggest stars has finally arrived after 5 years and 15 flops. Any other actor would have vanished without a trace had they acted in 15 consecutive flops. But Abhishek Bachchan survived, only because he had the true talent, which the first few films failed to showcase. What rubbish?
There were directors who crave to work only with purely talented actors who gave him yet another chance. ‘You see he had the true potential!’ Has he? Is this the way things work for every other actor whose father is not a super star?
The truth is that Junior Bachchan was destined to be the next super star. He was, is and will be a hot property. For him, fame is just waiting around the corner, because entire hindi film industry is ready to wait patiently till he becomes a super star. And the day seems to be fast approaching.
General opinion
Girls find his characteristic intriguing calmness (which they claim to be coolness) very attractive. The stubbly look seems to have made a fashion statement. Junior Bachchan had redefined style.
Opinions are changing. The Indian audiences are moving towards more sophisticated and westernized kind of actors. These days the characteristic Indian style of acting is being considered loud and irksome.
People are exposed to foreign movies due to the advent of TV channels like HBO and star movies that the definition of a good actor seems to have changed.
The result is that some of the most non-expressive faces are mistaken to be great talents. Abhishek is the best example for it. Abhishek has been chosen (wrongly) as the poster boy of Neo Indian acting style.
My opinion
An actor like say Rahul Bose would fit the slot of a westernized actor in a better way. He has got both the real talent and the dark looks, not Abhishek.
Abhishek Bachchan is extremely sluggish and dull. His face is wooden. He is a non actor. He just looks the role and speak his dialogue with no extra effort what so ever, so that if the film fails, the blame goes to the scripter or the director, and not to this guy who had been the non-performer.
He is neither a star as he lacks charm or screen presence. He is not a great dancer.
Though he does have certain kind of manly good looks, he is definitely not a screen stealer, nor is he an entertainer.
He cannot carry a movie on his own. He does not have share a striking chemistry with any actress. The spark and action are certainly missing.
He has already got more than enough chances to prove himself. People rave about his performance in ‘Yuva’. Those who say so should watch the tamil version ‘Aaytha Elluthu’ which had Madhavan acting in the role of Abhishek.
Abhishek had the advantage of a more rugged look compared to Madhavan, who had to shave his head, and grow a long mustache to get the look of a goonda. Given the make up of Lallan anybody could manage to look like Lallan, which is what Abhishek had done.
But the role needed some acting too. There should have been an explosive sort of unpredictability which was lacking in Abhishek’s version. Abhishek’s version was only a director’s manipulation of his looks and onscreen aloofness.
Run was yet another remake of a Tamil movie. Run was a typical masala movie which did well largely due to the spunk filled performance by the lead actors. But the hindi version was dead. Not because of the script or the director. (It was a ditto copy) It was Abhishek who had brought down the movie single handedly.
In the recent days, Abhishek has been there in quite a few hits. But where they solo all roles? No. They were all safe roles, designed to make him look cooler and more hip.
My conclusion
Abhishek can only act in tailored roles that make him look more cool, dark and stylish. And in the recent past he has been doing only that. He seems to be improving in that particular front. He has been perfecting it to an extent that some girls had fallen for it.
