I had used Internet connections for three providers, viz. Reliance(wireless), Tata Indicom BB and now Airtel. The reason of ISP shifts is just that I relocated(within Mumbai).
Well, although Reliance was wireless(via PCMCIA card), it was 99.7% reliable as far as "connectivity" is concerned. Cannot comment on speed, as practical limit is 153 Kbps(Tata and Airtel give the same). The period of usage was one year.
Now coming to real broadband: Speed of tata was reasonably good(or say excellent at times), but connection reliability was absolutely pathetic! Staff was not at all tech savvy - they come to my place and do whatever I can do(IP checking, pinging etc). The connection is dropped whenever you need it most. No, it is not just peak hours or weekends - Any time! Don’t go for it!
AirTel, as they promised, connectivity is always there - no matter how long you are continously connected, at which time you need to download/upload/browse, how much you download(I downloaded 89 GB last month!). By the way, I took Unlimited 256Kbps connection.
Speed! Wow - what a breeze. Just like you are browsing Internet pages stored on your own computer or LAN(except few sites which are always slow, like IRCTC’, this Mouthshut etc).
One more thing, their staff is extremely tech savvy - can solve the problem in minutes. I got connection within 3 days(they promised one week) - and it got connected the moment they finalized with intial setup. Believe or not for 40+ days Internet has never been down even for a second. I downloaded for 6+ days Continously!
You can get 40, 50 even 60 KBps(Kilo bytes per second) at times, even though practically it is 32 KBps.
No charges for Modem or Router, as taken per month by "your" lovely TriBand!
