Airtel DTH review - Absolute useless


I am from Chennai and I was having a tata sky connection for the last 3 years. I am happy with the services and the quality of the channels , but for the last months, they have reduced the number of Malayalam channels significantly. They started with some 8 channels, but now have only 4 channels left, I have decided it is time to move out of tata sky.


I was mainly looking at Malayalam channels, sports, news channels plus geographical channels and some kids channels, I decided to zero in on airtel DTH and sun tv DTH. As lot of people are complaining about the services of sun tv channel, I made the decision to take airtel DTH and there started my worries.


I have called the airtel 12148 from my airtel mobile and the moment some body had picked up my call. After discussing with him, I have decided to take south economy spots for 1 year and I have paid it through the credit card using IVR. The guy promised that the connection will be done in 24-48 hours as they have received the payment already. As usual I know if some thing happens, it will be on the third day by our Indian standards if it promised by 48 hours. So as nothing happened in 72 hours, I have called the customer service and they promised the installation will happen the same day. The same process continued for the 3 days as every day promises are made to be broken.On the 7th day the installation people have came and installed the set up box. They told me that they have used 17 metre wire, i have to pay Rs 12 per metre extra. To be fair, this is mentioned in their site, but no receipts were given.


The installation guy has told me that I have to switch on the stb box for next 3 hours and after that I can start viewing the channels. So I waited for 4 hours and tried to browse the channels, alas it says error code 6 and you have to recharge as no money is left in your account.


I tried calling the customer care 5-6 times yesterday and all the time, some body take the call and then say will transfer to the concerned department and after that it rings for 5 -7 minutes and no body takes the call.


I am trying it today also and the same thing is happening.


What I found in their customer service is that if you want a new connection, there are enough people to take the call, if it is a problem there will not be a single person to take the call!!!!!


Still on the second day after installation, I haven’t yet received the signals.


After my experience, I feel, this is an absolute useless dth service and I feel tata sky was much better. The only thing is it is a bit costlier and never care of regional channels like malayalam. I was also happy with the quality of channels in tata sky.


I don’t know when my worries are goin g to end...
