Route 66 was the Mecca for all travel from East to West but with the advent of the super highways Route 66 has died to remaining portions scattered all though Arizona and beyond.
Although Arizona has more parts of the original road that are still in tack those portions of the road can not be missed. Arizona has played on the nostalgia craze and kept those small towns and cities going because of that mother road.
Seligman Arizona is one of those old Route 66 towns.
Seligman with its small population feed off the Route 66 craze and welcome those seeking the nostalgia.
The main road through Seligman is the original Route 66 and I may add that this is the beginning of the longest part of the original road left in the U.S. From Seligman you can catch 88 miles of the original road. It is a fun trip , although sparce without the modern conviences it takes you back to a time when there were no malls or cell phones.
Seligman holds many tourist attractions such The Black Cat Lounge that stakes its claim as the original dsaloon in Seligman to see the likes of Doc Holiday and the boys ride in to quench their thirst. Seligman also has one of the original territorial jails from those old cowboy days.
Seligman boasts about much more and one of the best attractions to visit is the SNO CAP diner.
The SNO CAP established in the early days of drive -in eateries still stands a mecca of kitsch.
The owners Angel Degidillo and his sons manage and run this fun place and offer a wide variety of food and drink.
Once you enter Angel himself with come to greet you as all his visitors and the fun begins.
I ordered a Cheeseburger and was promptly asked Would you like that with Cheese?
Of course...then after an array of old tricks such as offering me a bundle of straw when I asked for a straw for my coke off we went and the fun and games began ..Mr Degidillo is nothing more than a hoot and a whole lot of fun he makes the trip to the restaurant alone worth the while. But the food is excellent and this restaurant is one of the few places left in the states that still makes real cheeseburgers and Chocolate malts and they are giant sized!
Good eats abound!
He wants you to visit the grounds of the restaurant also which boasts The Original Outhouse for Seligman and also old cars from the early days and many more unsightly, but never the less fun items he has in his outdoor museum.
Dinosaurs and plastic fruit hang from the trees, old toilets have been turned into planters not to mention the grounds decorated with old route 66 and burma shave signs.
Mr Degidillo will also have his picture taken with you outside in his old firetruck which is still in working order , just be sure to move the old deranged looking stuffed santa.
This is definately a fun town and Degidillos Sno Cap drive in Restaurant makes it all the funner .. but the food is out of this world!
