Last weekend, my family and I (foodies that we are!) decided to try out this new Chinese place, aptly named Asia Wok. Located on the sixth floor of the same building that houses Shoppers Stop, Bandra, the swanky upmarket restaurant is one of the few Chinese places that serve authentic Asian cuisine in the city at an affordable price.
The first thought that enters your mind when you enter this place is WHOA! So many people?!?!
The place is usually packed to full capacity on weekends, so much so that the constant chatter can get to you!
The staff is courteous but, ummm......a little dumb! I asked a waitress (yes they have those too!) for a Coke and she mumbled something inaudible and scurried off. Needless to say, I had to ask her senior to get me my drink after waiting for 15 minutes.
The food takes a bit too long to come to the table.
So why have I given this place a 4-star rating?
Because the moment you taste the food, all is forgiven! :-)
The hot-and-sour soup was divine, delicately spiced with parsley, dried mushroom and bamboo shoots. The starters that followed (5-spice chicken and chicken wontons) were hot, well-made and of course....disappeared in seconds!
I guess it was a good thing that the main course took so long to arrive, because our appetites were ready by then for the Oyster Chicken, Pot Rice, Chicken Schezwan Hakka Noodles, accompanied by a decently sized portion of Steamed Bread!
There wasnt room for dessert this time round, but I guess theres always a next time when the restaurant is so good! :-)
Some other highlights that make this place worth a dekho:
The Price: A meal for four cost us Rs. 850/-, which is excellent for the quality of the food served here
The Venue: Get a window seat, and the floor length windows let you have a rather interesting view of the bustling Linking Road below
Half Portions: They actually serve half-portions if you like, at 70% of the price.
