Movie Review Of Bewitched

Psst - This section will contain some inside trivia about the film.

Quotes - Good one liners from the movie.

Oops - Goofs From the movie.

Director – Nora Ephron

Screenplay – Nora Ephron, Delia Ephron & Sol Saks.

Jack Wyatt(Will Ferrell) is an extremely self – centered movie star who is going through an all time career low. A TV station decides to cast him in the a remake of the hit 1964 tv sitcom Bewitched in the lead role of Darrin. Jack wants to be the centre of the entire show so decides to cast a relatively unknown Isabel Bigelow(Nicole Kidman) in the role of Samantha the witch. The thing he doesn’t know that Isabel is actually a real witch who is actually trying to get away from the world of magic and tricks and starring in Bewitched is the last option on her mind. After much convincing Isabel decides to be a part of the series only to find that Jack has got an ego much bigger than him. She decides to teach him a lesson by casting a few spells on him without his knowledge and starts to realize that she is in love with him. A typical Nora Ephron story which are nothing short of modern day fairy tales. Aptly supported by Mihcael Caine as Isabel’s charming faher Nigel Bigelow and Shirley Maclaine as Iris. Very good acting by the principal star cast although movie buffs might just find this movie as yet another clichéd movie. A must watch for Nicole Kidman fans.

Psst –

1) The role of Jack Wyatt was written with Jim Carrey in mind but he refused the offer due to prior commitments. Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and even Alicia Silverstone were considered for the part of Isabel.

2) The 1964 hit tv series was nominated for 22 Emmy awards from the period of 1962-1972 and won 3. The series was also nominated 4 times in the Golden Globes Awards. The series ran for an unprecedented 254 shows.

3) Nora Ephron’s first film venture in nearly 5 years.

Quotes –

1) “Yeah, if I can act. You can act; Amen.”

2) “I love that show! Is that the one with the genie?”

3) “Do you want the long version or the short version? And I have to warn you, the long version is in Aramaic.”

4) “Am I gonna get pregnant? Because I cannot get pregnant right now.”

5) “Yes, I’m watching it, and you’re right, he is a great big male reproductive organ.”

6) “Let’s make love at Sea World on the back of a killer whale.”

7) “That’s it. You’re fired; Doesn’t matter. I quit. Yeah, so you better call my agent; You don’t have an agent; Then call my cable man.”

8) “Can you make an apple poisonous ? Oh No, you need a permit for that.”

9) “The dog has got better rating than me.”

Oops

1) When jack says that in the original series, the person who played the character of Darrin was fired is actually a factually wrong statement. 2 people had played the role of Darrin. Dick York from 1964 to 1969 and Dick Sargent fom 1969 till the last episode in 1972. Dick york was not fired but he had to leave the Tv series due to health problems.
