All these big chain and online rentals are running into huge losses. The quality of service is also pathetic. So many of them have already closed(cinesprite.com, moviemart.in mumbai) and others want to be bought out(seventymm.com). They are slowly realising that they have entered a business which is best run, at least in india, in the hands of local players. Unless you can rotate your titles fast enough, you cannot give the titles of choice to customers at a reasonable rate. Unlimited time period at low monthly rates limits the possiblitly of the customer getting their choice of titles which is precisely what is happening with the advent of these online rentals.
My advice to these people is not to copy netflix of usa, as dvd watchers here are spread out thin and the cost of delivering movies manually will far exceed the paltry monthly rates charged by these people. I would have said that customers would have a good time with their low rates while the hundreds of crores these people have invested lasted, but it is not the case as the quality of service and choice of movies is pathetic. I have tried a lot of these so-called big players in dvd rentals, but I am very happy to be back with my neighbourhood DVDwallah. And yes, Mr. Ambani, please dont do these kind of small business, think big like your great father and substantial businesses. You can’t do everything yourself.
