For those eyes that see…

Concept

A bunch of celebrities are locked up in a house and are

forced to live without any contact with the outside world. Each one is assigned

a few tasks. On completion of tasks certain rewards are given. Apart from this,

fun games, skits etc are conducted. It’s mandatory for every member of the

house to nominate two fellow members for eviction. Eviction is based on the

results of SMS based audience poll. One person will be evicted each week. The

last person to remain in the house wins the game.

*Life-like-life is

shown un-tampered*

In a normal motion picture (be it serial or drama or live

theatre or movie), * the soundness and

practicality is but severely limited by the sensitivity and emotional quotient

of its creative director. The director’s directorial abilities create a huge

gap between the concept and its implementation. The Actor’s acting limitations

could further the gap between concept and execution The viewers are aware of

the fact that thousands of gimmicks and emotion manipulation techniques are

employed to improve TRP’s and audience approval.

But the concept of this reality show removes all of these

and other unfortunate liabilities in making a movie. The cameras present in Big Boss’s house capture reality for a change.

No concept of dramatizing. No theme or

moral is substantiated. No projection of heroism. No discrete explanation of

philosophy that justifies the events. No special effects to improve emphasis. No

music in the background to forcefully trigger involvement; just a voice

occasionally intruding to explain the sequence of events

What is shown is an open human drama …

 Life-like because ...

Unlike real life, the drama that unfolds is controlled by

factor called ‘Nominations’. In normal conditions, in spite of differences in culture, social

class and even ideologies, mere acquaintanceship between people slowly changes

to friendship after mutual trust is established. Here, a person’s trust on

another is destroyed when the person gets nominated. Even if winning the game

is not an issue, the fact that somebody has nominated a particular person

becomes an issue of ultimate betrayal to that person.

The nominated person feels angry and prosecuted. Nomination

becomes a matter of shame. Since, no one wants to be nominated, stress related

to thinking about ‘Nominations’ torments them all. A few start playing mind

games to avoid being nominated. A few yield. And the rest become skeptical. From

then on, each person tries to eliminate those who scare them the most; the ones

they are skeptical about.

Nomination is not the end of the world! And

everybody knows it.  Most of the celebrities

living inside have a wonderful life outside. Yet, the fear of being disgraced

by Nominations is always there. The ‘Fear of Nominations’ introduce the kind of

stress absent in real life. Except that the other conditions are normal.

Like-life because ..

Apart from ‘Nomination’ related debacle, Big Boss is an

excellent place to observe simple human follies, idiosyncrasies of relationships,

strange individual perceptions and other complexities of human nature. It’s

sometimes astounding and sometimes amusing to watch the straight, crooked,

curved and tangential thought processes of the human mind.

The slowly developing friendships; our own changing perceptions

about various people; the silly tiffs and apologies; the typical individual

imaginations, prejudices and conclusions; expressed and unexpressed insecurities,

egos sometimes suppressed, sometimes flaring; sensitive points that trigger

unexpected behavior and intentions behind behavior; and more …The camera shows

it all.

The best part is that the darkest possible events that could

happen are not scandals, murders, abortion, plastic surgery, bomb blasts or

other irrecoverable dangerous events but, simple back biting, illogical hatred,

jealously etc .. Far better than those idiotic serials particularly the ones

produced by ‘Ekta Kapoor’

Conclusion

‘Big Boss’ is a house of learning. It’s a place which teaches

invaluable life lessons; lessons of the kind which one usually has to

experience to understand. These lessons reveal themselves to those who want to

learn. It’s for those eyes that see …
