I got the Blackberry Playbook tab a month ago and Im fully satisfied with it. Lets see why
Display - Simply awesome. Its better than ipad and Samsung Galaxy tab. One of the best display in any tab.
Multitasking - This tab is for multitasking, zero lag and its so smooth. Android does not come close to Blackberry OS in multitasking. Youll love it once you start using it.
Good battery life, it got 5300 mAh battery
Excellent speakers. It got stereo speakers and certainly the best among all tabs
Great Gaming device. Though you will find less games in BB app world when compared to iPhone and Android market place, its got some of the best games. Blackberry is offering its Playbook customers free download of 3 awesome full HD games (NFS undercover, Asphalt 6 and Modern Combat 2 Black). These games work perfectly on the Playbook. Check your data plan/wifi connection before downloading these games, each game is close to 500 MB.
Price point. The 16GB Playbook is around Rs 13 to 14k in India ($199 is US). Actual price was $499 for the 16G when it was released
BB Video Chat. This is a great app and I love the video chat on it, no lag and clear video. The BB video chat is however limited to Playbook users. Download Reelportal app if you want to video chat with other tablets, PC etc.
5 MP auto focus back camera and 3 MP front camera. I couldnt find another tab with similar camera specification. You can take crisp and clear pictures with the 5 MP camera
Support. Playbook comes with 90 days complementary telephonic technical support (toll free number). I got connected to a call center in Canada and the instructions were clear and good.
Presentation mode. You can connect the tab to your HDMI TV and play games, videos and even do presentations in the presentation mode. Very good feature and it works very well, no display issues and audio/video quality is excellent. I know most of the tabs comes with HDMI output and it will not work as you expect.
With 2.0 OS release, there is a proper email client. This was one of the major drawbacks with the older OS.
Now let me highlight few of the cons with the tab.
No SIM card slot. This tab works only on wifi or BB Bridge. BB is coming up with the 4G tab, not sure how long will that take.
No expandable memory card slot. You only got 3 options 16, 32 and 64G. However this is just a minor disadvantage
Playbook has not being a good success story for BB. It sold close to around 2 million units as of now, far less than what BB expected. Hence they reduced the price by more than half. They have already stopped the 16G Playbook.
You cannot compare the BB app world with Android or iPhone app store. However I got no complaints, its better to have a thousand good apps rather than having 100k apps to choose from. With the new 2.0 OS release, lot of the Android apps now available in BB app world. I found the BB app world to be of good standard.
Conclusion
For close to 14K, the 16G BB Playbook is absolutely worth the money youre paying for it. Its one of the best tablets you can buy, infact I got a second new BB Playbook.
