Oscar material?

Boys dont Cry is a provocative movie dealing with a broad spectrum of issues.

Boys dont Cry is based on a true story about the life and demise of Brandon Teena.

Brandon Teena is actually a woman who is having a sexual identity crisis.. or is she ? Is Brandon Teena having this sexual identity crisis or is she hiding from the law dressed and playing the role of a man? Is she really under psychiatric care as told in the beginning of the movie and is this the reason that she feels the need to dress and act like a man?

Or is it all just simple that she really wants to live as a man?

Actually this plot is so interwoven that what seems to be so obvious is maybe not so obvious.Confusing is the word Im looking for here ..maybe?

Once the characters evolve ( I mean the whole cast ) I found it hard to get close, or have empathy for any of them.

Why? I could not like, nor care about any of these people.

Basically the direction portrayed this cast as nothing more than white trash drunks, underage nymphos, and even touched on pedophilia.

Although I can honesty say that the acting was well done and Hilary Swank did an excellent job as Brandon Teena.

This film really gives you a glimpse into a side of life you’d rather only hear about.

I really did not care what happened to Brandon Teena or any of the cast by the time this movie was over.

I pitied the director and cast members for so badly portraying an issue that should have been brought to the screen in a better light.
