Surprisingly good, nice service, good food.

I entered Cafe odyssey by accident. All I wanted to do was rest my feet. I ended up having cold coffee, lunch and dessert (in that order) and enjoyed the experience.

Cafe Odyssey is situated at Panjangutta right below the Odyssey bookstore.

I had seen the place a dozen times while on the way to the bookstore. It always looked empty and I thought that it would be just another coffee shop that sold passable coffee and barely palatable continental food.Ive had similar experience at other stores and decided to avoid Cafe Odyssey like the plague.

But once I actually entered the place and ordered from the menu I was really in for a surprise.

For one thing the waiters are really friendly and they know how to approach a customer. I normally club waiters in 2 categories; the ’’in your face all the time repeatedly asking you how the food is’’ and the ’’I really don’t care what you want just get your order over with’’. The former is far more prefferable to the latter but I would like to be able to talk to my friends and not be interrupted. Its not much of an interruption but I still feel bothered a bit when it happens’’

I digress; the waiters at odyssey are friendly, prompt in their service and ask you ’’how the meal is’’ when your done. The rest of the time they remain at the counter or potter around with one eye on you to make sure that they don’t miss you asking for something.

I liked the waiters....I really liked the food.

The food is cheap. I don’t know any other place in hyderabad which has the same quality of food at a very good value for money. you can get a grill on a bed of potatoes with herb sauce or pepper sauce or mushrrom sauce(and some other one I forgot) all for Rs.99 . I believed the portion wold be really small.....I was wrong.

I thought the food would be badly prepared....I was wrong.

The chef seems to take a lot of pride in what comes out of his kitchen. The food is presented really well.I don’t know how many people feel this way but I like a big plate with a neat clean presentation and no sloppyness even in pouring the sauce over the grill. (I can’t comment on anything else since I only had a grill and nachos which were also prepared well)

I had an ice coffee which was again prepared well and with low fat milk to boot. It was much smoother than the general ice coffees you get from a coffee day (not too creamy but the low fat milk used would explain why)

The dessert was quite good. Not great but still good.

Cafe Odyssey is a great place to hang out with your friends and have a well cooked and reasonably priced meal. The calm atmosphere int eh place also lets you enjoy a good read. I really enjoyed going to Odyssey the next day , buying a book and reading a couple of chapters at Cafe Odyssey.
